Guess I'll just say this:
I think Astro Boy and Speed Racer were actually made with serious intents. I think you can't watch them that way at all. It's a lot like Evil Dead - the attempt was to be serious, the final product was anything but. You have to watch all three with an almost satyrical light.

I enjoy Real Robot Animes, but I enjoy conversations about different types of animes because it gives me a chance to check out different things/types.

I have to say that everytime I watch Speedracer, I think of this @_@

As much as I should know about Mecha animes- I lack the knowledge of most besides titles and some chars v.v <---------- Lame.

lol, every time I think of Speedracer, I get the song from "saturday morning cartoons greatest hits" in my head. It really isn't the best anime, but it's like watching some of the old silent films. It's good to see where we've come from. Even if you can't stomach the whole series (which I don't blame you) - there are some good eps.

As for Mecha - it's not for everyone. I really enjoy it, but that's because I've been a robot junkie forever. And things like Gundam have SUCH a history, that it makes it rather hard to get into - especially stuff like the Universal Century (or anything with Macross). I mean, while the themes of MSG are still relevent, Mobile Suits with Bell Bottoms are a bit much...


Still, looking at your anime list - might want to check out Turn A Gundam. It's an Alt Universe so only one series, and you don't need to know anything to get into it. It's very character driven and a very good story line. Also a lot more mature and better paced than Gundam wing. I was only released in Japan, so you'd have to find a copy to down load.

LOL, you can't be into Anime and escape Gundam... it's part of the culture ;)
