As resident cleric, I do believe I can answer that.

Yes, you can damn a god.

It ain't easy, but you can defeat a cosumer whore god by making everyone not buy their product. To date, I believe that has met with a miserable success rate, as most addicts lack a higher enough will save to not fall to old habits.

*Shrug* More imagination games for the rest of us.

I wonder if yelling out "god damn" during sex enough would be enough to damn a god. I'm thinking I should test the theory and report back.

Thanks, glad to see another QC fan! :nana:

Anyhow, I just saw Pirates of the Carribean 2, and I gotta ask, was I the only one tempted to make Tentacle Rape jokes during that movie? (Actually, I have a Tentacle rape song that I sing on occasion...)

Seriously, my life won't be complete until I hear this.
Out with it.

(to the tune of "Particle Man" by They Might Be Giants")

Tentacle Rape, Tentacle Rape
Anime Girls love Tentacle Rape!
Monster attacks! Everyone wins!
Tentacle Rape!

(Written by a female friend of mine when she was bored, I've been meaning to write more verses but have never had the proper visit from a muse).

I've been reading about it surprisingly frequently. People comparing the sarlaac pit to one, and also the house from Monster House. I guess anything that's a hole with teeth counts as one.

But it's kind of fitting. After all, Jack gets betrayed by a woman and then immediately falls victim to a metaphorical symbol of a woman tricking and injuring a man. Yay metaphors!

Anyway, nerd thread seems a bit quiet recently...
This will not stand.
So then, nerds, I ask you; what is the best nerd compliment you've ever received, or given? :p

I nerded it up today. I spent five hours playing a new deck for a CCG. (Raw Deal, It's wrasslin').

Then I watched the PPV, which really wasn't great with many other nerds. We then played Heroclix and talked about card combos. I've just restored weeks of geek cred.

Today rocked.

Been playing Final Fantasy VIII a lot lately. One of my cheap brand-x memory cards went bad (I bought it about 6 months ago) so I had to start over. I will probably need to invest in a better memory card.

But yeah, FFVIII... what can you say? It's a very pretty game. The gameplay can get annoying until you set the cursor to memory mode and tape down the X-button once you have your magic draws set up, but the cutscenes make it so worth it :D

One of my favorite cutscenes in this game is the ballroom dance after the first mission. Has anyone else played this game? I've only made it partway into Disc 2 of it, when Balamb Garden and Galbadia Garden mix it up.

Oh, had some fun today sword fighting with the SCA. Got to use two-handed fighting for the first time. Any sword fighting lasses here? :D

Not a lass but I fence. Lots of girls in my class.

And I was the first guide on IGN for FF VIII. I like it more than seven. And it only takes about twenty minutes battling and 3 hours of cards to have all the low level magic in the game. Or about equivalent time Carding monsters.

Cards man, so the way to go. I wish they'd make that game in RL.

Cheers for Swords

I connot duel wield as of yet ... but i can use an epee sword now !!

I have never played FFVIII.. i hear to many mix reviews of it, and am to addicted to WoW to play it anyhow but tell me what u think of it ?

Well Dual Wield is kind of over-rated. I only know two people who can do it well, and they still lose to a one weapon fighter. But he's pretty amazing anyway. And two swords throws you a lot even when accustomed, And throws you more against say a good piece of wood with more reach. But Epee's are good. I use a foil myself.

And VIII was good. I highly enjoyed it. To commit Heresy, I liked it more than VII.

VII didn't have cards.

Final Fantasy playing friends that I have talked to regard FFVIII as the prettiest of the FF games. Lots of really interesting settings (Balamb Garden, your home base in the game, is awe-inspiring), amazing CGI cutscenes (that move so seamlessly from the in-game graphics that the only way you can tell is that the resolution goes way up as the transition happens), and very very good music.

The thing that can hinder it is basically the way the game uses magic. You can junction different kinds of magic to different character stats (ie: Vitality, HP, Strength, Magic, etc.) and it would affect your characters' ability to do different stuff. The more magic you had, the better this worked. The most effective way to get magic is to find a bad guy with the magic you need and "Draw" it from him during a battle. It can be a tedious process to do this, but you can streamline it by setting the cursor to "Memory" in the options so you don't have to go through all the action menus for each character during fights.

But yeah, once you get past that, the game is very fun, definitely worth the $20 I paid for it when I got it. Lots of fun side stuff like the card game (very fun once you get the hang of it and learn how to turn monsters into cards). Highlights include the highly amusing recurring enemy soldiers Biggs and Wedge (who keep getting demoted after their failure at stopping you from achieving your goals) and Zell's ongoing quest to get a hot dog.

Lots of depth in that game if you go to look for it, including amusing references to things that happen earlier (early in the game, you visit a country named Dolett to help repel invading Galbadian forces, and when it is time for you to leave, you are chased by a large military robot that smashes a parked car as you run down a city street. My little brother informs me that if you visit the same place later, you see an identical car, but a different color, parked there, with a protective owner standing nearby asking you not to touch it.

Well, the one time I have duel-wielded (yesterday), it was a rapier in my right hand, and a dagger in my wrong hand. Basically what I would end up doing is approaching on my left foot instead of my right foot, catching the other guy's sword and moving in with my own (hopefully before he can retaliate with his own off-hand weapon).

Mind you, this worked this time probably because his off-hand weapon wasn't one he was allowed to attack with. If he had his own off-hand dagger or sword, I would probably be less successful with the maneuver.

Mostly I fight one-handed, with my left hand up in a guarding posture, which I keep forgetting to use for the intended purpose.

Ah. With Foil I parry a lot and Only really Counterattack so I stand very still for a long time and Almost jump when things start. With a Halberd, I Press reach and I spin the weapon. So I can attack from either end or side. But It's always fun to keep learning.

As Cleric can vouch my nerdyness kinda extends into way to many aspects of my life... Although i am proud to say i actaully have added WoW guild officer to my resume and beleive it or not it has even helped me on occasion get an interview or two... :)

And hmmmm FF sounds like something i would want tp pick up just to see it.. and i mean who isnt on a quest for a hot dog !!..errr well i guesss im not.. or vegans...or people who just dont lik...well nevermind that part It seems worth taking a look at :)

Im actaully in the process of moving up state right now so i will need something to occupy my time while i wait for Warcraft to install which should only take a month or two </sigh>

I remember playing warcraft and hearing about this legendary project that the company was working on to make a multiplayer game that had endless lands etc. and they were going to call it world of warcraft..

actually I have NEVER played it, I am not nerdy enough to have a credit card to gain me access into things like that..

I just enjoy the idea of the SCA and would love to participate at some point, in REAL life
