It's certainly not for everyone.

And Rivet, it's the most reviled of GMs that are the most skilled.

i prefer Magic...easier to learn, easier to play...no real number stats to worry about

Oh I know, I'll try like hell to kill or screw with you, and if you dont try your damndest to survive you should go back to your high school DnD club and cry.

Have you heard about the "Timer trap" ? It really tests people's roleplaying abilities.. how much they play off their own preconceptions. Not everyone can stay in character after all.

Timer trap...?
That went you only give a player three seconds to act, or they lose their turn?

Micro, sorry to hear that.
Shall I organize a hunter killer squad?

Nope.. it's a countdown timer in a cave.. It starts at 10 and there's a button beside it.. When the party enters the room all the doors slam shut and nothing the players try open them, even magic. The button, when pressed, resets the timer back up to 10. The DM who created this spent 3 and a half hours with his party resetting and trying to figure a way out.. when they finally got fed up and let the timer reach 0.. the doors opened, and he was promptly chased from the room.

Now, it makes people think "bomb".. but they didn't have time bombs back then :p

Oh man...
THAT is both funny and terribly evil.

I did it to my players one time.. One player stayed in character, but the rest went against him anyways :p So, his good roleplaying was futile.

Actually, most D&D settings are late medieval, oftentimes gunpowder has been discovered, just not yet applied broadly to cannon and firearms. In which case, using clockworks, a time bomb COULD be made. It could also be a magical trap with a mundane trigger. That said, most adventurers wouldn't get that paranoid if something started counting down. An Arcane Mechanic, however? Yeah, he's gonna spaz. :p

Somebody mentioned Warhammer (ick) - anyone play Warmachine here, or roleplay the Iron Kingdoms setting? I do the former quite a bit, and might be getting into the latter though I have my own test campaign I'm GMing right now, and might be getting into a Pokemon campaign with a couple of my friends, so we shall see... :cathappy:

I dunno about that...
They may not know it's a bomb, per say, but when the doors seal, and a countdown begins, all but the least intelligent will figure there's something wrong.

:D Either way, it would be funny as hell.

Okay, first off perhaps most D&D settings you've played in were set in late medieval. I've always played in earlier settings, where swords and sorcery meant swords and sorcery. (well, and bows, throwing knives, and all those other medieval goodies). Also, even if it had been applied would they even know what an analog timer was? Would they even know the concept of a bomb? This is why I said it was a good test of roleplaying abilities. Especially if you're playing a particularly stupid character.

Wtf is an Arcane Mechanic? Is that something from D&D 3rd edition? This trap was for an AD&D second edition campaign, I should've specified that.

Actually, more than likely, the Arcane Mechanic is part of the 3.5 'we need more crappy prestige class' block. *Sigh* Gone are the good old days of straight classes...

*sighs* There are no women on Lit who are interested in our kind boys. Once I did have a woman add me to Yahoo but now she is disappeared. I think there is nobody on Lit from my area. At least no one my age. Maybe its me?
