i am very sad today, it appears that our dryer has quit working, after 17 years, you would not think it would be wore out yet, but it is , my question is does anyone have a neptune washer and dryer made by maytag and if so how do you like it and is it worht the extra cash?

I don't own a washer or dryer, but if I were in the market for one, the Maytag Neptune would get a very close look.

I think their projected savings on energy are probably a bit high, but if your washer gets used frequently they're probably close. I don't think the energy savings will offset the cost difference if you only do two or three loads a month.

For a family of four, doing 10-15 loads of laundry a month, the energy savings are probably enough to make it cost effective. For a bachelor or childless couple doing laundry once a week, it probably won't save enough to be noticeable.

You might check Consumer Reports for a review on whether it's worth theprice as far as cleaning ability claims go.

If you want to see what everyday people think of the washer, try epinions.com as well. On that site, consumers write reviews on products they've used. I find it an extremely helpful site.

thanks

weird harold for the figures, and 10 to 15 loads a week is not uncommon at our house at all , so maybe its worth it

From the quick google search I did, I'd guess a Neptune's higher capacity will reduce that to about 7-12 loads -- just one of the ways it saves money on energy costs.
