I am kinda lost here, how did we go from giants to angels?
Not to be rude but don't anyone google anything anymore?
The idea sounds sooo sexxxy, women that are so beautiful that Angel falls for them. Wow! talk about a compliment!
really sophisticated giants might be interesting: we're accustomed to portrayals of giants as these barbaric brutes yelling "fee, fie, foe, fum". what if instead, the nephilim is talking about the differences between, i dunno, truffles harvested in france vs. italy?
Perhaps it wasn't hidden from God. Perhaps it was his intention for the angels to breed with mortal women, but something else made him unhappy with the situation? Perhaps the crossbreeds didn't turn out the way he'd hoped they would?I agree with mythtrav16, with 'how can an Angel hide his feelings or actions from God' and would God be jealous. That would be a question, I would be affraid to answer.
Who's to say that the Nephilim do, in fact mate with human women. Seriously, is that part of the legend? That the Nephilim went on to have sex with human women, themselves? I've never seen any text that explicitly says they did this.Would they have strengths and what will be their weeknesses? How will they have sex with human women?
yeah, i think that interpretation could be quite interesting. :>mythtrav quoth:
perhaps the sophistication in itself is the "giant" part about them?
i would say not.mythtrav queried:

genesis 6:4 quoth (NIV):
the nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of god went to the daughters of men and had children by them. they were the heroes of old, men of renown.
genesis 6:4 quoth (KJV):
there were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of god came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
textually, i think it's ambiguous. however, assuming that the nephilim were themselves capable of bearing children, i think it's safely and reasonably inferred that they would possess the same drives as humans, no?genesis 6:4 quoth (CEV):
the children of the supernatural beings who had married these women became famous heroes and warriors. they were called nephilim and lived on the earth at that time and even later.
I was just about to say the same thing. That they are half human and half angel, so they would have to have our weaknesses. Otherwise, how else would we get them to have sex in our stories??
well, i think that "less flawed" does not necessarily make angels perfect. in a theological sense, i don't think that any entity in the christian worldview is perfect apart from god.mythrav quoth:
see now, that's something that puzzles me. angels are theoretically mightier, more perfect beings than humans, right? so how is it that they are so easilly corrupted by our flaws, genetically speaking? to me, it would seem that if a being was truly perfect, it's seed would be able to overcome any transmissible flaws in its mate. conversely, if a species is easilly corruptible at its reproductory phase, then that, IMHO, is a sign of great weakness (on the part of the angels, no the nephilim).
