I'd say Martha had gone too far if I weren't the living embodiment of Mahatma Ghandi.

Nelson/Mahatma,

To celebrate your first thread in the AH, I feel compelled to stencil a pattern of adorable ducklings on the nearest freeway overpass to your home. The paint color is up to you, as long as its within the range of warm neutrals.

It's a good thing.

Best regards,

Martha

Hey Subo!

So good to see you here.

Glad Sher is here with the peace offerings already.

Somedays it's just not good to be a newbie with her around.

:D

Yes, that's pretty scary. I frankly don't know how you do it.

Hi Subo! Welcome to the snakepit.

5,000

Congrats Lucky! It's an accomplishment of some sorts, far surpassing my own millenial postings. The mahatma and I are proud of you.

Liar, thanks, I've lurked long enough. It's time I presented my opinionated, self righteous self to the people.

Ducks, shereads? Are you saying I have Down Syndrome?

Eeeek!!!! Political incorrect reference!

My eyes! My eyes! They're burning!

I hope you're a regular American and not a terrorist like the ones from the teachers' union.

We're full-up of liberals, scofflaws and socialists here in the AH.

Are you with us? Or with the terrorists?

assessment

I don't know if I'm a liberal or not. I'm not a very good socialist. But, darn it, I'm an incorrigible scofflaw.

As soon as they hire me full time, I'm in the teachers union. My father was USW (United Steelworkers) and my mother was TWUA (textile workerrs--RE Norma Rae) so it's in my blood. Darn it, now I'm in the mood for some Ramblin' Jack Elliot.

I hope you're sitting down, Subo.

I feel awful having to tell you this, but I'm afraid you have the symptoms of Communism.

subo the Red

I do like my steak pink in the middle.

By the way, shereads, I was out in the forest this evening and saw the same bear again that I saw last week. She saw me and ambled off about 100 yards, then turned and sat down to see what I was doing. (I was sitting comfortably and safely in my truck:cool: ) There are no documented cases of an unprovoked attack by a FL black bear, but I do keep a cautious distance. Still she's very beautiful. I think she's a liberal, too.

Are you crazy? She's Russian! How soon we forget the Red Menace.

Btw, next time you contemplate hanging out with your bear pals, you might want to peruse the May issue of Vanity Fair...

:(

Remember the naturalist who died last year? He was famous for hanging out with Kodiak bears in Alaska, during the salmon runs when they were all so fat and well-fed that they'd share a beer with him and watch the game?

So he took his fiancee with him the last time. (She was afraid of bears, if you can believe it. What is it with girls?)
Well, evidently the video camera was running (with lens cap on) on their last night camping in bear country, so it picked up the sound, which is how we know why nothing was left of them when their pilot came to pick them up, except for their shoes and some Person Jerky. They were trying to sleep, and a bear was making lots of noise outside. Being a guy, he told his fiancee he was going to go outside and "shoo it away."

:(

It was a bear, mind you, not a raccoon. The girlfriend didn't think it was a good idea to confront the bear, but she wasn't an Experienced Naturalist.

On behalf of women everywhere who've begged their husbands/boyfriends not to do do one of the following...

play with the gun/handle the snake/speed up to beat the train/throw gasoline on the coals to make them heat up faster/your stunt goes here

...shooing-away the grizzly bear turned into the Ultimate I-Told-You-So.

It's not fair that they didn't survive! She could have played that tape at every family gathering.

I bet.......

he never asked for directions either. I know I rarely do. I adhere to the philosophy of Daniel Boone: "I've never been lost, just a might bewildered at times.

I saw martha didn't know they have strip searches in minimum security prison. Poor girl. Oh that's right, she's not poor, I am. Hmmmmm, maybe there's a connection. Perhaps I should take up perjury.

shereads, stop by Rick's Rooftop Cafe and I'll buy you a black Russian. In liberal proportions.;)

Nelson Mandela

Just thought I'd add a little snippet to this thread about the REAL Nelson Mandela. Today, Sunday 18 July he celebrates his 86th birthday!

Happy Birthday Madiba!

Green_Gem

Birthday Boy

In that case, there should be cake.

"Let them eat cake"-- Marie Antoinette, another great domestic Diva.

How likely was it the day Mandela went to prison that he'd live to see 86, much less that he'd celebrate his birthday a free man, in a South Africa where his color didn't condemn him.

It restores faith in the small possibility of miracles.

"An exhibition of art by Nelson Mandela, entitled Reflections of Robben Island, co-incides with a massive concert in South Africa to raise money for Aids. This is the second collection of art released by Mandela.

"The pieces were inspired by Mandela's incarceration in the remote Robben Island maximum security prison where he spent 17 years. He was released in 1990."

Are you saying that a decoupaged toaster cozy doesn't constitute a miracle?

mlle

St. Elmo surviving the removal of his brain by use of a pulley system made from his intestines, was a miracle. Not one he ought to have been grateful for in my view, since it just made his executioners have to come up with something worse, but still a miracle.

Toast from an unplugged toaster is a miracle.

I've seen the item you're describing, and I don't think it's a literal miracle. My grandmother made it. She made cozies for everything from toilet paper to an Oldsmobile Delta 88. They were miracles of good taste.

on occassion

I've felt cozy in decollatage.:p Is that the same thing?
