"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR SARAH
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!"
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!"
The room erupted in applause, as Sarah Richardson blew out the eighteen candles atop her birthday cake. Greg was there, as always, with the Richardson family, to celebrate her milestone, along with other neighbors. He had watched Sarah grow into a striking young woman. In fact, it wasn't until that precise moment, when he saw her moist lips blow on the candles, her slender frame perched over the tall cake, her soft face aglow for a brief moment, that Greg saw Sarah with desire. It hit him for a brief moment, and then he was back to mingling with the neighborhood, passing cake and silverware. His brain told him those fleeting thoughts could never amount to anything, besides. Nearly twenty years her senior, surely she wouldn't go for a man like him, and Greg dreaded to think what it might mean for his relationship with her parents, whom he'd known since moving in, five years ago. Still, even as he lay in bed that night, he couldn't get her warm smile out of his head.
