So my tax return this year was big enough that I should be able to afford to buy some new gadgets, but I don't know what to buy...

I need an MP3 player that can store a few thousand songs recorded in WMA, and play them back in random. I don't want to pay a bundle. I don't need extras like online or video or any of that crap. I just need a music player for at the gym, and maybe plug into my car stereo if I ever get the wiring done...

I also need a satellite navigation system. Again, I don't need a lot of extras, I just need to be able to figure out where I am going from where I am. I have used my parent's Mio Move and hated it. Not buying another device from them ever. So I need something else. Again, not looking for top of the line, but something that works reliably.

iPhone? Or maybe iPod touch. Would do both. MP3 player and navigation system.

By a Sybian and you'll be the most popular guy on the block.

My mom has an iPod Touch, and it's pretty spiffy. If it can do the music and navigation, you may want to go for the 2-in-1.

For GPS, I have a TomTom (Amazon link here). Nice thing is it has lifetime map updates, although be careful when you do the computer registration; I think I may have messed mine up -- just the registration process I mean, and I think that was operator error. My mom has one and it works well, though. Easy navigation and pretty intuitive.

I also have to say I love my Kindle (Latest Gen with 3G). :)

I don't want a new phone. My current plan is VERY cheap because my mother's retail outlet gave it to her with an employee discount, and I lose that if I upgrade (her retailer no longer sells Verizon plans).

So I just want separate music player and satellite navigation. I like compartmentalizing my toys anyway. It keeps them from ganging up on me...

Look into Apple's Nano...pretty sweet little device.

Buy your GPS with an eye toward how it updates.

Well, the iPod Touch isn't a new phone, although you can use Skype on it. But if I had a cheap plan I'd stick with it as well, and I like my separate gadgets, too. :)

So for music I'd suggest some kind of iPod (I don't have one, myself, but I do have an MP3 player). For GPS, I again suggest the TomTom because it has free lifetime map updates.
