I'm never sure if folks want constructive criticism on their pics or not. I generally feel like its way more important that folks post their photos and feel good about them, so I would never post anything negative about someone's pictures on their thread.

If you're a hobby photographer and would like some help from a professional regarding anything from posing, lighting, camera angles, photographic techniques, and/or 'photo-shopping', I might have something to offer.

So, that long winded opening complete, if you have a picture that just didn't come out like you'd hoped, or you want some advice on how to make your next photo shoot a little better, I'm happy to offer my experience and advice. (Which of course you can take with a grain of salt :) )

To everyone who posts here, I thank you for the enjoyment you've given me. I've never seen a photograph of a woman that wasn't beautiful in some way.

Yeah, I have a question-how the heck do you clone in photoshop? I don't feel like calling them and I'm too lazy to read the instructions and everybody that has tried to explain it draws these cute little pictures that are of no helpno offense Syb :D

Would that be clone like using the rubber stamp tool, or clone like taking a pic of one person and making it a pic of 2 identical people?

Do you have a picture where you would like something cloned? I'd be happy to explain the process if i knew a little more about what you're asking.

Thanks for the new thread. I think this could be a good one. I am a self-proclaimed amateur-enthusaist photographer myself. I feel like my equipment is getting better and my photos are getting worse.

There is quite a bit of talent on here. Of course, I have my favorite girls. For many, the right girl is just enough to get the juices flowing.

My favorite photo talents so far are Ozraven and his bride, as well as Diamante. There are two or three others. They are less active, and I can't quite remember their screennames at the moment.

I love critique of my work. I want more work, better work, and more help.

From your avatar it looks like you have some nice gear pm6hnd!

I use 3 novatron lights and a fuji s3 camera for most of my shots, though I have had some success with much lower tech (and price) equipment like aluminum fishing lights (think aluminum mixing bowl with a lightbulb in the middle).

I think the #1 most important tool is that everyone is having fun...

So far, I am shooting a digi Rebel, the two umbrella slave-strobes-w/ modeling lights, and a pair of halogen work lights from Sears. My best shots, so far, have been with continuous light in a dark room.

Maybe clone wasn't the right word. I just picked these really, really fast from Dawn's thread. The first one is a pic of her taken in high school, the second one about two to three years ago, the third just different pics moved into one and the fourth, not sure, I didn't do any of these but I like the effect. Then there's something about layers, but if I could just learn to take to pics and bring them into one, or change a face from one to the body of another for example, that would be great. The mirror thing and the rubber stamp I can do-by accident probably:D

So, for example, if I wanted to take one of three and do the last effect or for that matter put them all into one pic, what do I do(I know this is pretty elementary stuff for most people but because I've seen pics put on magazine covers, with other people, etc. many times).

oooo!
Good idea guys!

I am in school to be a photographer, so I will just use this thread as a little resource (that isnt cheating, right?)

I am always glad when people see smut as a little more than masterbational inspiration, but just a little.

Smut must always be sexual inspiration! But when it occasionally whisps away into art, you find quite a healthy amount of enlightenment through your libido.

well, honestly, i must admit i use it mostly for mastabatory purposes.
But its nice to PRETEND to be enlightened, right?

Fiz,

Great thread idea man. Photography is a hobby of mine, mostly nature photos, but I started taking some of myelf a bit back. I'm defiantely a lot better with nature as my subject than self-photography.

Any tips or 'tricks of the trade' that you want to express, I will defiantely read. So far my photography experience has all been trial and error, self teaching.

I had more to say, but it slipped away. Must be more tired than I though.

Anyways, again, great post. :)

Wow, this seems to have taken off pretty well. Unfortunatly, I'm super busy today, I've got 9 clients to shoot. (Well, I guess thats not unfortunate...)

I'll happily answer as many of you as I can tonight EST when I get back home from the studio.

Lets see, general tips...

Lighting:

When a closeup is what you want, move away from the subject and use your zoom, rather than putting the camera 1" from the subject, your camera's flash will burn out your image every time. (In digital photography, take the pic on your highest resolution, you can often crop in for an even closer close-up)

Try to use natural color bulbs rather than soft white if you're using room lamps as your primary light source. You're much better off having 3-4 lamps in a room and not using your camera's built in flash than using the built-in and having low light in the room.

Think about taking your pictures during the daytime near a window. natural light is 10000000000000000000x better than electric light.

Posing:

Pay attention to your subject, not the camera. I rarely look through the lense at the pictures i"m taking, more often I watch with my eyes and snap the pic when what I see is what I'm trying to capture. Use a tripod at first with this method, so the camera is capturing the entire scene.

When lining your camera up on the tripod, pay attention to the corners, not the middle! Remove stray items, wires, cords, debris, whatever. We've all seen the picture floating around the internet of the couple posing in a nice picture for the in-laws with the gigantic tub of anal-lube on the table...

Make sure your model is comfortable. If she's having a good time, it will show. If she's not having a good time, it will show.

Think about (but never mention) what your model will think are her least attractive spots, tummy stretch marks, double chin, saddlebags, etc, every woman has something she's not happy about (even if she's a size 2, and we men wouldn't ever notice). Suggest poses that flatter and hide, rather than the Da'Vinci style spread eagle pose. Cross arms over tummies, twist the body or head to lengthen the body or neck.

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure I can add some. Do you have anything specific?

Bearlee, I'm still working on your cloning question. The short answer is to play with the magic wand tool, and adjust the tolerance to select just what you want.

I have been known to use the eraser tool to turn the entire background to white, then use the magic wand to select all the white, then under the 'select' menu, click 'inverse'.

You can also use the lasso tool to manually 'draw' around the selection you want.

Practical, and fairly common..

"general photography tips" could/should/would encompass several volumes of textbooks. Specifics are much easier to answer and are more likely to be of value to other folks. I'm just here to have fun and help out a bit :)

By the way, I should have said this before, but thanks! I haven't figured it out yet but I appreciate the effort on your part.
