I don't think you will get a definitive "not true", as it is easier to prove something than disprove it.
It isn't my specialist subject, but from what little I know about the subject as a programmer, this sounds like a tall story.

this ties into a blackmail story, and was thinking someone could gain something this way..and then use the dirty home pictures as material....

So what I might be able to do, is put together a MS Powerpoint package (or my own custom program) that shows an animated slideshow of pictures of myself. In the powerpoint file I could embed code that searched for every .jpg on your PC and transfer them to my server.

This is my understanding:

Every JPG, JPEG, GIF, MP# or AVI file has a "header record" at the beginning. It gives your computer information about the size, name, Artist and some other things.

A "BUG" can be inserted into the header record. If the hacker is smart you would never know because the file would load correctly while it infects your computer.

They can also be inserted into a rar file, and they don't always get picked up by your anti virus.

As a computer security professional I can assure you that the ONLY safe filetype is raw text (.txt). Anything else is suspect.

Having said that, most users are so careless about security that I don't see why anyone would bother to use a .jpg to invade someone else's machine unless they have a very specific target in mind.

This is a yes and no type question.
a JPG file is harder to put damaging code in rather than gif, bmp, cmx, or tiff, but I'm sure it can be done.

To my knowledge this code is not like a hijacker, which makes your PC usable remotely.
It is a Trojan that embeds itself in components, and at a specified time, it will infect the surrounding files.

I had one sent to me by a friend of a friend. Her computer had its address list hacked, and everyone on that list got the same infected .JPG picture, EVERY WEEK! MY dumb friend opened it and got some bad infection. I didn't, but my virus program caught it every week before we got her to wise up and clean her system.
Don't remember if it was a trojan, worm, or virus, but anything could have been inserted there.

Don't open a JPG from a stranger, and get a good anti-virus program that scans email.

First of all, a jpg isn't that believable since it's easier to send damaging code in bmp and gif format, and even then, it's usually something very minor since attachments such as exe, zip, rar, avi, swf, pdf, and yes, txt is a much easier way to spread a virus.

Tricking the user is easy, for instance the embedded bmp could have a popup generator that warns you of a non existent virus detected on your computer.
The letter promotes a spyware scanner demo attachment, and the popup suggests that you use it.

The reader then clicks the attachment, and a Trojan is set in place with a time release worm waiting in his or her address book, but you're right, sexual blackmail can be used with this.

I think there are a lot of ideas presented here, and I think the general answer to her question is "Yes". Whether or not it is really easy doesn't matter.

I read an article some time back that consumer printers contained some sort of sequencing that was invisible to the naked eye that told what computer had printed what document. It had been used by law enforcement to catch someone who had been blackmailing people and sending harassing letters. They narrowed it down to a particular model of Epson, I think, and used that information to help convict him. Scary huh?

Ok how about this scenario-another means of access to compromising pics/videos.Trophy Wife/Soccer Mom type during a shopping trip leaves her
purse behind in a changing room while trying on dresses.She is trying on a variety of outfits and going back out to show her friends accompanying her on the shopping trip what the new outfits look like on her.For that reason she does not realize her purse is gone until she is ready to gather her new selections and make her purchases.

Now,her purse contains the usual assortment of billfold with credit cards,drivers license etc ,the loss of which is understandbly upsetting enough.To add to her distress is the fact that her purse contained her PDA with numerous e-mail addresses contained therein.Even more worrisome is a memory stick,containing
images and vids of her and her two respective folks she is having illicit affairs with.Even more distressing is the fact that she never bothered to set security on the PDA or the memory stick and both are at the factory default.She prays that the purse grabber will take the cash in her purse and pitch the purse with the PDA and memory stick in the nearest trash dumpster.
Meanwhile ,just over a mile away in the bck of a PC shop with a reputation for less than above board dealings,one of the clerks from the dept store womens clothing section on her lunch hour and her hacker boyfriend are looking over the contents of the soccer mom's memory stick.The hacker boyfriend then fowards a few of the pics to a gentleman he has done business with in compromising information before,one who pays top dollar for such info.A few e-mails back and forth later,the boyfriend fowards the contents of the memory stick and PDA to this business associate.
The next afternoon the trophy wide/soccer mom receives her first e-mail
of many from an anonymous e-mail sever based service .So her tasks begin to keep the pics and vids suppressed.The price of suppresion she finds is very costly and not in terms of money necessarily.
Ideas anyone?

I mean she is sleeping around on hubby already, another lover wouldn't be a bad thing.

However, if you were to twist it around, it's pictures of her and hubby having sex, and doing things besides missionary. Of course she is a straight laced christian lady who swears that anything beyond missionary sex to procreate is a sin.

Of course that would have to start out slow, say pantyless trip to the store, working the way up to going to the park late at night putting on blinfold, dropping her window and waiting for a cock to suck. Which of course would turn into say, going into the bathroom in the park dropping her skirt and panties and pressing up to the glory hole for a fucking.

You raise some good points here ,emap.This is exactly the type of feedback/brainstorming I am looking for on this story,which btw is by no means set in stone at this time.I may be able address the two people issue by the fact of who these two are.One being a male partner and the other a female partner of which she is conducting seperate liasons with.These two partner's position in the community would do much to compel this soccer mom type to suppress the pics and vids.

Though honestly, her having two lovers isn't such a good idea, I mean if she has two already a third wouldn't be a problem for her, at least not in the agreeing part, the time restraints of course would be difficult, but otherwise no real need to blackmail her.

One again emap you make some very valid points.Yes,the ultimate decision on the contents are up to me as the writer.Indeed,I did consider our soccer mom and her husband making either pics or vids during a rather varied night of wild sex,much beyond that few minutes of abrasive friction that passes for sex in these modern times.The problem with that scenario is the fact that it has been used in several stories ,both here on literotica and on other sites.Out of respect to these other writers I simply do not wish to borrow or even seem to plagiarize their work.For that reason, I included these two sepetate affairs.I can readily see your point on her contending that she was drugged etc. and may have to refine the memory stick mateirial and charcters thereon ,further.I am thinking already that the same characters engaged in various acts of kinky sex would possibly neutralize such a contention on the soccer mom's part.
