It seems to me, if you are editing stories, the best person to ask would be the writer. I would probably suggest to the writer that a lot of the acronyms will confuse a reader so perhaps a brief explanation, either directly embedded or through the context of the story, would be helpful. It is hard to read a story if the reader doesn't understand the words or conjures up a meaning that isn't what the writer had in mind.

People are creating so many acronyms or just made up words these days it is difficult to keep track of them all.
