My Friend is currently deployed. I want to send him a care package to show him that i care.

I asked him what he wants. All he says is pictures of me stripping on a cd. (yes, I know that isn't legal in the country he is serving.)

For those of you who have deployed in the past (or currently), what things from home did you want?

How can i make sure that he feels special, loved and wanted?

You advice is appreciated.

care package

i think i can help out here. i have been in the military for sixteen years and can tell you it is always good to recieve a package from home. you can never go wrong with candy and snack food, your schedule always results in missed meals, so it's always nice to have a stash near your bunk on those days. but of course i have to agree with your man, a few pics of that someone special would definitely be the highlight of any care package. also, try music cd's(well protected).

thanks!

I have decided to send him some cds of the songs that we like, 6 #s of coffee, both ground and whole bean and several other inside jokes. I am also putting a few pics on the cds, well hidden,

I'd agree with Alpha...candy and just little things to remind you of home. Can't say I've been deployed yet [will be by the end of the year], but at least bootcamp gave me a semi-decent idea...I remember I used to re-read letters from home all the time...and music was a big one...we'd sing old songs just to make us smile. And remember...everything we hear from home makes it better...even a silly lil convo you think nothing of...may bring a lasting smile.

From being deployed in the Navy several times I can say for a fact just recieving something from home was enough.

The songs are great and hiding the pics is even better. The coffee will really be a big hit. (home run for you on that one).

cc'skittykat, I spent a lot of time in the middle east and you do have to be careful what you send over there. Depending on where he is, customs over there can be real asses. I can tell you that I really enjoyed explicit letters. Write him and let him know what you are going to do to him when he gets back home. Other than that, I agree with the others that just about anything in a package from home is pretty special. I remember also that we could not get a lot of magazines or newspapers when I was over there. Anything to let him know what is going on in the states...if he has a sports team that he likes etc.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I did look in to what can and cant be sent there. the only thing that comes closed to being restricted is the pictures. I did check on the coffee. where he is at in the middle east, it is allowed to be shipped there.

I am lucky that we have a lot of commo. he has access to the internet and can instant message, email and web cam with me whenever hes not on duty.

LDRs suck! What makes ours worse is that it looks like when he gets home, i will be over there. Luckily, he is supposed to go on R/R before i leave, so i will get to see him before i start my training. Looks like when i will be checking in, he will be checking out.

Well Good luck cc'skittykat. Sounds like yours and his rotations suck. I hope everything works out for you both and you get to spend some time together. :rose:
