I want to make some chili for a Super Bowl party but I don't want the recipe from a book I can buy. I would rather have a recipe that someone has actually tried and liked.

So, if you have a recipe for chili that you like please pass it on. I prefer one that is somewhat spicy but not firehouse hot. Also, if you have some unique ways of serving the chili I would appreciate your describing the method.

Ingredients
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 pound ground chuck
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

Directions
1 Brown the beef in vegetable oil. Add onion and garlic, and cook until the onion is soft. Pour off any excess fat, for less fat rinse with hot water.

2 Put in a crock pot or large sauce pan.

3 Stir in beans, crushed tomatoes, chili powder, and vinegar. Salt and pepper to taste.
For Sauce Pan: Heat to boiling, and reduce heat. Cover, and simmer 30 minutes.
For Crock Pot: simmer all day on low, this way give it a better flavor.

For serving I suggest a sour dough bread bowl. Mix bread according to directions and divide. Spray back of stoneware bowls, press dough around the bowl and bake.

Ingrediants:

1 pound of hamburger per every 2 people
1 green pepper per every pound of burger
1 red pepper per every pound of burger
1 yellow pepper per every pound of burger
1 large onion per every pound of burger
1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper per every pound of burger
5 tablesppon of chili powder per every pound of hamburger
1 table spoon of crushed chilis per every pound of burger
1 14 oz can of diced or chopped tomatoes per pound of burger
1 14 ounce can of kidney beans {rinsed} per pound of burger
6 cloves{not whole bulbs} of garlic per pound of burger
{optional} 1 7 oz can of corn nibblets{not cream style} per pound of burger

In fry pan fry up/brown burger with half of the total spices.
In a pot add all the rest of the ingrediants and spices and warm up to allow spices to marinate in.
When the hamburger is browned, drain grease. and add burger to the big pot with all the rest. Bring the heat down low and simmer together for 30 minutes.
{optional} 10 minutes before finished and ready to serve add corn nibblets, this adds texture and tastes good with spices.

Serving suggestions would only to be to have fresh home made bread rolls and real butter on the side.

P.S.- this makes a rather hot chili but not quite fire house.

any questions feel free to ask.

How many servings will be made from your recipe? Plus how hot is it?

1) Open can.
2) Pour contents in pot.
3) Heat over low flame.

Hope it helps......

We also have "New Jersey Chili" but it involves: deer, camoflage, stinky potions, dirty sex, tin cans, a wedding, and a bottle of Jack Daniels. Usually too much trouble, unless you are at a family reunion.

about 4 to 6 depending on how big your serving sizes are. Not that hot to me.

Oh my god I want some chili now. Thanks ALOT.

My mom has a recipe for chili that would have you running for a gallon of milk in 3 seconds. LOL. I LOVE IT. However she wont tell me so :(

chef moment

serves 10

3 pounds stew beef-cut into 1 inch cubes
2 sweet onions diced
24 ounces good beer-or red wine
3 small cans diced tomatoes
2 tblsp brown sugar
2 tblsp cumin
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cracked pepper
* if you must add beans-24 ounces of beans-kidney or red
Brown beef, add onions sautee until onions begin to carmelize. Add to large stew pot,add remaining ingredients-cook over low for a very long time-as in hours-I ususally let mine go for 4-5 hours. Stir frequently and don't let it burn. I often add more alcohol, or beef broth if it gets to dry.

Serve with following condiments-

1 head of garlic, roasted
4 fresh jalapenos diced-seeds in for hot seeds out for mild
1 small bunch cilantro
1# grated sharp cheddar
16 oz sour cream
1 bunch chopped scallion

If you want to get really creative you can buy small bread bowls-or large round rolls and hollow them out, brush with garlic and olive oil and bake until crisp. Fill with the chili and keep warm on a cookie sheet in a low oven.

I make the BEST chili anywhere!

I don't have specific measurements, I just keep adding stuff until it tastes good. hehe But mostly it has:

onion
red pepper
green pepper
yellow pepper
celery
ground beef (browned)
chicken (cooked and pieced up)
keilbasa(same as above)
pinto beans - lots!
chili powder
stewed tomatos
tomato paste
water
texas pete
texas pete
texas pete

:) I know it sounds different, but the chicken and keilbasa make it SOOOOOOOOooooooooo good! You have to cook it all day long!

Seeing as how your recipe is different I'm almost afraid to ask this question....What or who is texas pete?

I buy "Carroll Shelby's Original Texas brand Chili Mix." It comes in a little brown bag with the other sauce and taco mixes. It consists of a packet each of spices, cayenne, salt, and masa flour. On the back there are directions for quick chili, if you don't have a lot of time, or quicker chili, honest to Texas chili, or suggestions for making your batch individual. The directions allow you to work as much or as little as you want. I think it's great. :)

:( Sowwy but to me Texas Pete and Carroll Shelby's Original Texas brand Chili Mix are the lazy persons way to make a chili and never tastes nearly as good as a little TLC. You also feel much better about yourself when feeding a gang and can say I made it all myself.

my 2 cents :( sowwy, didnt mean to step on peoples toes.
