I'm planning to have my novel "Orpheus's Fallen Angel" published into an actual book but I've learned that I need a literary agent.

I have no idea how or where to look.:(

I think you've already been told that it's highly unlikely you will find an agent for a first-time erotic novel.

Is your book erotica? If so no agent will touch indy erotica, period.

And very few, if any agents, will take any indy author

But if they do? You're looking at an $800+ investment and no guarantee at all of success.

Look in:- "The Artists & Writers yearbook"
Check out whether the Olympia Press is still in business.

This is the difference between hiring an agent, shopping your book around to various publishers, and getting turned down by all of them. If you keep at it without burning out, you may eventually write something that a publisher likes, and they will bring it to print, and they may or may not put the effort into promoting it well.

Or you skip all that and just indie publish it with Smashwords, Amazon, etc. You'll only sell a handful of books (mostly e-books, but Amazon does run print-on-demand stuff) compared to the big-name authors, but at least you'll have it in front of readers.

The latter is the miracle and curse of the internet, it lets anybody self-publish their stuff without the barriers of publishers, be it erotica, fanfiction, comics, or what have you.

You don't hire an agent. You have to submit to them and be selected. If an agent lets you "hire" them, the agent is a fraud. Agents also don't deal with e-books except at a publishing package for current best-selling authors.

What is an indy author/indy erotica in this context? I was assuming the OP was as yet unpublished.
