I have Photoshop, and well not too au fait with it..... but the Image Size page does have Resample, and then goes to Save as......whatever, so no probs there. Think the problem (apart from the operator!), is resolution in this particular case

I have Photoshop 5.0 LE for Windows, so I'm not sure how well the images will match whichever MAC version you have, but they should be close.

Image1 is the resize dialogue -- set the larger dimension to 150 pixels and make sure the "constrain porportions" an "Resample" are checked.

When you click OK the picture should shrink without a white border. Don't worry about the resolution or print size setttings, because those only matter if you're printing the picture.

Check the resize canvas dialogue if the picture resizes with a white border and set the largest dimension of canvas size to 150 pixels if necessary to get rid of the border. (you'll have to change the "units" to pixels from Inches)

Image2 is the Image Quality setting dialogue that comes up when I choose "Save AS" an JPG on the file menu and click Save. The image I used to demonstrate with saved at 3KB with quality set to LOW and High Quality saved the same image at 6KB -- both are more than small enough to use as an avatar.

You may have to search in the Preferences or Options for the JPG Quality setting but probably won't have to change the default unless your images won't save to less than 15KB. (I don't remember if the quality dialogue when saving is the default or if I changed a setting to get it to come up everytime.)

The only thing you really have to remember -- no matter what program you use to resize pictures -- is to set the units to Pixels and make the largest dimension 150. Then save it as a JPG.

That will cover about 90% of images as far as making them small enough files to use as avatars.

Changing the Compression or Quality setting is for those few pictures that don't compress enoughwiththe default settings.

Re-sizing

Hi there.....
Still having problems.....thought I would try and master this resizing problem in Photoshop, and if it won't work, then I'll try to learn another programme. So I have taken an image, and tried to work it thru, and the resulting photos are attached here, and in the next posts. (No Number 2. as it rejects it, as being posted somewhere else) So prior to Image 1., I loaded into iphoto>Export to Desktop>Photoshop......
Any help would me very much appreciated
NN :)

Re-sizing #3

Down at the bottom, in the color section, turn OFF the "Imbed color profile" option.
OK....did that, but still won't load. Any other tips H., as I would really like to be doing this in Photoshop.

Almost emailed you first, but wasn't sure if you were on. ;)

Thanks!
Glad to help, I woke up a little while ago and of course that means I must go to Lit. ;)

And please, feel free to email me anytime and I'll get it back to you asap.

Need some help. :)

Hello everyone...

I was hoping there might be someone here who could resize my image to fit the 250 by 250 pixels requirement here at lit, for my profile?

Thanks (in advance)...

It keeps saying that my pic is too large.......
For a profile picture:

The maximum size of your custom image is 250 by 250 pixels or 29.3 KB (whichever is smaller).

For an AV:

The maximum size of your custom image is 150 by 150 pixels or 15.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

If you want to attach it to your post I'll be glad to resize it for you. Also you need 100 posts to be able to post an AV

Would you please resize this for n avatar.
