I can get the dimensions down to 150 x 150 like is required....but i cannot get the bytes under the allowed 20,000. I have a whole lot of AV's I'd like to use and can't b/c of this problem!! It would be greatly appreciated if you coulld let me know how to fix this problem!!

If the avs in question are animated GIFs, then you probably need to reduce the number of frames to meet the file size limit.

If they're JPGs, check you help menu for "JPG quality setting" or "JPG compression factor" -- High quality JPGs are compressed less than Medium quality. Most Medium quality JPGs meet the 20Kb limit easily.

If the pictures are BMP or TIF format, converting them to JPG format will solve the problem.

If your image processing program can't adjust compression or convert images easily, then try IrFanview -- from www.irfanview.com -- as it can manage any of the above suggestions except removing frames from animated GIFs easily.

I know that when sa ving a JPG/JPEG image if you select "save" under the file menu then the quality/compession bar should come up so that I can save my images at or under 20KB. OK...the place where i want to save my images has other things on the page....so to save I have been "right clicking" on the mouse and save it with "save image as.." this seems to be the only way i can save the images iw ant to save. Unfortunately, when saving with this option it

I have never run Irfanview, so possibly WH can give you more help. But it sounds like you're confusing saving a web image with saving a picture file locally in Irfanview.

In your browser, right clicking will let you save the image off the web page, but only as it exists on the page. You can save images off the web to a file locally on your hard drive.

After you have the image locally, you can open that file with irfanview and edit the image, as well as adjust the compression.

The 80% setting in that image is what I use to resize images for avatars and it usually results in a file size of 15-17kb file size for a 150x150 pixel true-color picture.
