Neanderthal Detergents

does anyone have a recipe for homemade dishwasher detergent? i am tired of throwing money down the drain.

I feel the same way about garbage bags. It chaps my ass to buy something designed to be thrown away.

I used to use the plastic bags from the grocery store, but I live in communist Montgomery County and the council passed a 5cent per bag tax. I'm sure as hell not paying 5 cents for a plastic bag.

Yes, we make ours. It's washing soda and borax, and there are a million sites with recipes for it. Some people add citric acid, which, if you can't get yourself, you can substitute unsweetened lemon koolade for. Or just put white vinegar in the rinse thing and don't worry about it.

I bet neanderthals stunk. They were hairy but had no Pert Shampoo. And they didn't use Charmin.

Same with laundry soap. It's the agitation that cleans clothes, not the soap. Use the same stuff and add some oxyclean to it.

the city sends me garbage bags twice a year. normally that's enough, but i had to buy some the other day. i hate that. the ones at the store always so much cheaper than the ones the city sends. pisses me off.

I make my own laundry detergent the same way. And I grate fels naptha into it as well. Works great.

The citric acid strips the film off (in theory), but the vinegar does the same thing, so I've skipped the citric acid and had it be fine (especially since our chemist neighbor moved away).
