In a first-person article posted Monday on Sports Illustrated's website, Collins begins: "I'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay."

Collins has played for six teams in 12 seasons, most recently as a reserve with the Washington Wizards after a midseason trade from the Boston Celtics. He is now a free agent and wants to keep playing in the NBA.

Thanks for clearing that up, we weren't sure.

I for one, never would have guessed...

Especially if he doesn't get picked up somewhere next season. He's probably guaranteed a job now as long as he wants.

I'd bet any amount of money you couldn't name the other former NBA player who came out without looking him up.

What does he need a job for? he's 34, a millionaire and has a degree from Stanford.

Also, it's not unheard of for a professional athelete to go broke once their career is over. Especially the mid and lower tier utility players.

Because the only thing that would piss you off more than a proud gay man is a proud gay black man.
