Actually, it was because Hitler, like underguy, hated Jews. He drove the best physicists out of his country.

Had he not done that, we would all be speaking German and we would have the level of peace, order and good government that Hard Rom craves.

I'm not entirely round. Although I admit I've put on about 10-15 pounds what with all the fast food I find myself grabbing on the run these days.

I'm sure the world would function much better if only you were the elite.

They were very close to getting nukes. The destruction of the heavy water plant in Norway and the sinking of the ferry carrying the heavy water stock slowed them down.

They had the science. They had some of the necessary infrastructure until it was destroyed. But for their own stupid policies towards scientists and the attacks on the heavy water plant and its product they might have had nuclear in...

I had forgotten about that. I watched something one time where they were recovering some barrels that were on that ferry that was sunk trying to determine what the quality of the heavy water was. I don't remember the outcome of that little salvage operation- whether the barrels were still intact enough to get a sample or not.

In 2005, an expedition retrieved a barrel (numbered "26") from the bottom of the lake. Its contents of heavy water matched the concentration noted in the German records, and confirmed that the shipment was not a decoy. However, it also supported the notion that the concentration of heavy water in a number of the barrels was too small to be of value to a weapons program.
