anybody out there know of any natural sleep inducing type stuff (barring milk and turkey tryptophan ain't gonna cut it unless I eat an entire turkey.)

Been told chamomile works, but it's never done a damned thing for me.

Sorry, sweetie, but I've never found anything natural that worked. :( I likes me chemicals. ;)

I like them too but it seems that every sleep aid I know of is chock full of stuff thats the not so good for the baby on board.

 uh oh call the preacher...Oh wait I'm not possesed I'm pregnant carry on nothing to see here it's all over but the crying...

Benedryl works great and is absolutely safe while you're pregnant. Doc told me all three times that it was okay, but just to satisfy yourself you might wanna check with your own.

Sorry love, I know exactly how you feel. How much longer now?

three months about and thank god for you I'm going to get some benedryl

don't suppose it's safe to chug it huh?

I've not found anything natural that works. Further, being 'natural' doesn't mean 'safe', or safe for pregnancy. So if valerian is 'natural' and works (which I've heard) I'm not sure it's safe for you.

Some of the OTC antihistamines (the old ones) or antimotion sickness pills make one sleepy-- diphenhydramine(benadryl) or dimenhydrinate (dramamine or gravol), but I don't know of their safety during pregnancy.

Some lay opinions.

Renza, antihistimines work and are generally safe, but do have next-day effects (headaches or hangover like symptoms). Melatonin is often recommended as a natural aid but NOT for pregnant women (just hasn't been tested that thoroughly).

Sleep position can help. If you lie on your side, put a pillow between your knees. If you're on your back, under your knees. There are even specially shaped pillows (foam usually) for this. I think one of the major causes of sleep problems during late pregnancy is due to not adjusting the 'new' body weight and shape. You may also need firm support for your back if you lie on your side.

best, Perdita :)

I'd forgotten about that.......I slept with one under my head, one in the small of my back, one between my knees, and one under my rapidly expanding belly.

All my kids were big so the pillows were a huge help - doc said it takes the pressure off your spine to have the one between your knees and under your belly.

I'm suprised I forgot this......my husband knew it was to invite instant death to touch one of my pillows.

Thanks people youi guys rock and whatnot I'll let you know if it worked in 20 minutes or so which is to say when I'm silent I'm sleeping so don't come a knockin.

Looks like it worked this time. But, for future reference, I used to take a warm bath (not too hot), get right out of the bath and into bed while my muscles were still relaxed. Didn't always work, but was worth a try in my opinion.

Whisp :rose:

I hope you get your sleep, mrs. Sorry, but I can't help you there at all. I had major trouble staying awake when I was pregnant. Good luck and a  from me.

One thing Id suggest is stay off of here- why?

Your mind is on a constant rush fliting through posts seeing who is on answering emails etc. I have sleep apnea and the sleep specialist said to let the brain slow down before heading to bed to try to acheive a deep sleep.

The warm bath or shower then a nice warm snugglie nightie tucked into a warm bed with a certain someone will help. If you choose the bath try the Sleepy time tea , Im not sure who makes it but it has a bear in a night cap on the label. Make a cup and sit in the tub, making sure the bathroom is toasty warm.

I took the box to my dr and asked if there was anything in it that would harm the kids and he said nope, but prepare for the runs, that was no problem during pregnancy so all was good.

Between being uncompfortable and restless during pregnancy, its hard to find a good possition in bed, I bought 6 pillows of different sizes one under the side of my tummy so the top side wouldnt stretch with the weight, one under my knees, one between and two for under my head. I have big breasts and laying on my back was surely suffocation without the added pillow!lol

It helps to use calming techniques, have you found a picture to use as your focal point during labour? Find it if you havent, look at it before bed and practice your breathing, nice deep and slow breaths. You will be asleep in no time at all.

Hope some of this helps Beautiful!

Hope you finally got some sleep, Renza. Hate to be a party pooper, but get it now while you still can. You certainly won't have much uninterrupted sleep for awhile after the little darling gets here. (I was extremely lucky with the second one - he slept all night at 3 and a half weeks, but that's not usual)
