Overview
Background
National Day of Mourning

The National Day of Mourning is an annual protest organized since 1970 by Native Americans of New England on the fourth Thursday of November, the same day as Thanksgiving in the United States. It coincides with an unrelated similar protest, Unthanksgiving Day, held on the West Coast. The organizers consider the national holiday of Thanksgiving Day as a reminder of the democide and continued suffering of the Native American peoples. Participants in the National Day of Mourning honor Native ancestors...

today while stuffing your faces, it might be a good time to explain to your children the concepts of genocide and ethnic cleansing.

100 Million,?????

100 million?????
Does anyone really know how many native Americans lost their lives, fighting Americans?
How populated were the various tribes? I am guessing less than 500000 in total.
I would like to know if I am right or wrong.????

Only 5 million FNP left in the US today.

We do not know the exact number of people killed in the Americas. There was no one back in the time of Columbus compiling a census or doing a mass survey. However, we conclude that a figure of 75 million is reasonable.

A death toll of 100 million figure has been documented by the authors D.E. Stannard, author of American Holocaust, D.E. Stannard has said, "The destruction of the Indians of the Americas was, far and away, the most massive act of genocide in the history of the world." . And apparently it didn't take long for the Europeans to get this genocide started.

you seem to think that the genocide stopped at some point in time. it has been ongoing since at least 1492. there are plenty of sources of research that estimate the population of native people before and after contact and cite historical documentation. the highest estimate i've seen is 112 million.

but the big take away for you should be that it is currently ongoing, not some past historical event.

The surest way to keep yourself down is to think about what you could have had, and not focusing on what you can achieve.

Thanksgiving has always been a perfect example of expand and conquer, and what happens when a People aren't united against a common enemy, and that just because people share your same characteristics, it doesn't mean they are your ally.

It also teaches us that there is no room for second place, and if you want something in this world, then you have to take, and fighting for something is much better than fighting for nothing at all.

And since I have no time for social justice warriors trying to force an undeserved guilt trip on people who had no control over the White People's destruction of the Indians, I'll add you to my ignore list.

Whether or not it was based on any kind of real life incident I don't know. I remember a black and white TV western show along the lines of The Rifleman, Lawman, Have Gun Will Travel or similar. An Indian Brave was on trial trying to prove he was human, since at the time they were considered animals by the US Government. During the trial he somehow shed a tear which convinced the Judge as it was believed animals were unable to do so, therefore making him human.

It may have been all purely fiction, but still embodied the culture of the time.

Going to my son's with the whole family and going to give thanks for all our blessings.

Alol @ how much you suck.

Console yourself with the knowledge that more people choke to death at Thanksgiving than any other day of the year!!!

^^^Yet supports ISIS and MUSLIMS^^^

muslims, yes. isis-i think not. i've known several muslims who i know are much better human beings than you, so you lose.

I choose this day as a day to give thanks, as it is intended to be.

Yes I grieve for the sins of this country- both past and present. But I think it is important to remember the point of Thanksgiving is not just "stuff your face at the expense of the indigenous people" but for everyone- indigenous and non- to just reflect on the blessings and good fortune they have and be thankful. There are plenty of opportunities for repentance.

Does the number really matter to you ?
All of the estimates are just that estimates .Whole native tribes were wiped out by disease and so called pacification .

Whole tribes were wiped out and/or enslaved by other tribes.
