Naoko Smith's Birthday Party Thread

Ogg and Penuche, those cakes are wonderful!

Happy Natal Day Naoko...:kiss::caning: (I heard you like a good spanking)

<snerk> Only from the right man ... :kiss:

Happy Birthday, youngster. You're only as old as who you feel.
*wistful* Does that make me your age yet?

Notwise, R.Richard, Tio, Toria, Hypoxia, Jane - thank you!
:heart::rose::heart:

Happy birthday, Naoko! You don't know me, but I lurk and admire you from afar.

You must come up ;) and see me some time :devil:

Had the most wonderful meal! Migosh the scallops were sensational. I meant to get the marinated figs but I really wanted to drink the Picpoul de Pinet, and the Maitre d' said not to have it with the figs. He came round specially afterwards to tell me about an Italian wine he said was very good with seafood, although they only do it by the bottle so I will have to go back with people who drink alcohol to try that. It was a pleasure just to have someone serving who takes the wine (and my judgment of what I want to drink!) seriously.

And for pudding ... if it's on the menu I always have the crème brûlée because it was the speciality of the head chef at my college when I was up. I never expect very much of it, but I do this out of sentiment and the other puddings were like: apple crumble, or the waiter did point to the chocolate fondant but I like my chocolate in a bar. Well, this crème brûlée was simply sensational! Out of some sort of stupid concession to popular expectation they had stuck a shortbread biscuit on it, which I took one bite of then left on the side. Anyway, it was a really perfect crème brûlée and they had put a bit of seasalt in the caramel on the top! what an inspired modern touch. It was just delicious.
:p:cathappy:
(I had that with a glass of the 16 yo Lagavulin.)

Ahhh, I can hardly wait till next year ...

Today was also my eldest daughter's birthday. We celebrated with a small dinner in an Italian Restaurant.

Among moans about her academic managers, we raised a glass for Naoko as well.

Di, Ogg, Magica, LadyVer - thank you so much.
:rose:

(Ogg, I do hope your daughter's line managers suffer the same kicking-in-of-head-by-bicycle-sheds that mine did. I am wondering if someone could have a little word with OFSTED ...?)

JKD - :D it looks ... delicious! I did once make a banana cream pie for my birthday and I have to hand it to you ;), that cake just about tops it <snerk>.

My amazing, brilliant friend! My BFF! It is finally the correct day (LOL!) and I've spent it cranky and reclined and never even got online here.

Happy Happy Birthday!!!! :rose::kiss::heart::rose::kiss::heart:

I'm so glad you and Piglet got to enjoy such a nice day out. You deserve all the best. This year will be an incredible one for you, I know it.

Hugs and kisses!

Car in the pool.

TV with an axe in it! Well that's not so bad.

Out of touch for a day and look at what I missed.

Happy Birthday!

Thank you.

Unfortunately, I fell asleep and saw bit of it.
This cold is driving me nuts!

It was a confusing match to try to keep watching. I did think Scotland had the edge for most of it, but they turned off the burners in the last ten minutes. I'm not surprised you drifted off if you have a bad cold.

Drink Lemsips - especially just before you go to sleep, as they will help you get a bit of decent rest. Hot water, honey and lemon too - the steam and warmth will make you feel a little better. Take a nap, or two or three!, during the day to catch up on your rest. Basically - get plenty of rest so your body recuperates.

Thanks, Duchess.
I have been firmly warned off most of the propriety 'over the counter' medicines (a combination of EU Rules and a high blood pressure problem.
But you have reminded me that I have some oranges in the kitchen, AND I have some Rum. I'm sure I can dream up some recipe of non-dodgy aids to recovery. I must remember not to over-do the alcohol, though . . . .

I have an appointment to see my GP tomorrow morning [an eye problem], and I'll ask his advice about stuff to ease a cold. . . .
