Piece of piss............??

Just out of interest, and because I'm wierd that way, I just did a word count on ALL my stories to date, written over the last 2 years...... 2 years, and they total around 55,000.

Write that much again? In a month ?????

I'll leave it to those that can.

Good on yu.

It's only like writing 2,000 words per day, something I tend to do anyway.

I must admit, I was rather more daunted by it last year, but this year, knowing I can do it and having got myself into good writing habits ever since, I really do know it's easily do-able. It just takes discipline and motivation. Both of which I intend to dish out by the spoonfull this year. :D

Anyway, it's not about the "winning", i.e. reaching 50,000 words, it's about going for it. It's about sitting down to actually write a novel. It is a huge buzz and something I could never get enough of.

Thanks, Mat, your support will be invaluable to us.

Lou  :rose:

Well I'm just going to go for it. If i don't give it a go I'll never do a novel. I need the motivation, the panic and the general "all in it together" feeling to even try it.

Don't shout at me too much though Lou; I'm a stubborn 'eld mule and I'll stop full stop if you go all sargent major on me ;)

Nah, I don't do a good sergeant. Well, not like that, anyway. :p

No hollering from me, just encouraging prods and pokes, in the form of motivational words.

Lou :rose:

Motivate away, Lou Lou - you're the glue that binds us to the task - pretty good lookin' glue too.

A couple of early thank yous...

Thanks, Black Tulip, I like the word count spreadsheet.

Thanks, Matriarch (damn, what a great moniker), for the visual aid in your avatar - it works for me - I might even have a scene take place there with my little witch trying to get her genie back in the bottle.

Thanks, Perdita - I love watching your collection go by - happens to fit in the mood with my story this year.

Now, let's see what else I can do while I wait for the clock to strike (hmm... can you really clock someone good enough to qualify as horrific?)

-FF
(ps. I know I've been away a lot, but I think things are really looking up and so I'm taking the literary plunge once again - see you all at nano and hopefully in the AH).

Two and a half hours to go... Time to start thinking of a plot - for the first three thousand words I'm planning to write before bedtime.

Character sheets? Complete plotline? Bah!

Starting at the mark? Not me. I work at 5:00 a.m. Monday, so I'll be sleeping through it most likely. But I will be startig sometime tomorrow, and hopefully getting 1000-2000 words in before I go to sleep (or watch Monday night Football -- J-E-T-S).
Good luck everyone, expecially all of you who are counting the minutes instead of days and hours...

30 minutes to go for Black Tulip, Svenska and Liar. :D

I'll be posting the support thread in about 15 - 20 minutes.

Time to go brew some extra strong coffee. I'll be right back.

I think I know how to start, but what I need is a decent name for my female lead. She's an exchange student at the Stockholm university. Feeling estranged among all the Swedes, the buddies up with a male exchange student. Romance ensues. Along with other weirdness, since the guy isn't exactly what you'd call normal.

I picture her as asian. Possibly Japanese or Korean. Anyone got an idea for a believable name?

And quick please, I'm down to 15 minutes. :D

Yui.

I know, she hangs out here as well, but I think it's a beautiful name.

:D

First names (jap): Kimiko, Kaori, Ayako, Michiko, Mikiko, Reichi, Yukio, Megumi
First names (kor): Sey, Ria, Hali, Jae
Last names (jap): Tendo, Utsumi, Inada, Kuramoto, Kawada, Kusaka, Kanai
Last names (kor): Yoo, Hong, Kang, Kim, Han, Cho

AND THEY'RE OFF........................

It'll sound daft - and it's Chinese rather than Jap/Korea - but what about Doris? My SO works at a uni that has lots of Chinese students, and my son is currently working in China. Both report 'Doris' as a common name for Chinese girls (I could send you a pic of one such, but not for publication, this Doris is one of my son's colleagues).

It may be an anglicization of a 'real' Chinese name, but it's still authentic - and sufficiently counter-intuitive to stick in the mind (which might generate extra words discussing that very fact).

All the best,

Eff

Thanks. It doesn't really matter to the plot, but I figured I might as well get it right.

Ok. I'd better get crackin. See y'all in a month. :D

How about Fuk Mi, or Fuk Yu? *giggles childishly*

I know, it was stupid and foolish and pointless and various other things, but the Pats lost. I'm giddy.

I had cause to complain in the Chinese restaurant the other week, I called the guy over and said, "excuse me are you Fu'King the manager", he replied, "no I'm Wan'King the chef".

Ok I know, very silly....... I'll go............:D
