Names

I've never cared much for my name, though Mindy is definitely preferable to Melinda (my given name). For some reason, no one can ever remember Mindy so I answer to pretty much anything ending in a -y. Mandy, Missy, Cindy, etc.

As for the passing down of family names, my mother is still bitter than my father talked her out of Wray for my middle name. All of the Wray family girls (on the maternal side so they don't have the last name Wray) have that as their middle name. My parents have been together since high school and apparently my mother used to complain about how she hated her middle name so my father talked her out of passing it on to me.

Luckily hubby & I have no plans for children as I don't think I could bring myself to follow his family tradition for sons. They all get their father's first name and their mother's father's first name as a middle name. So you have this line of men with the same first name, but they aren't Jrs because they all have different middle names. I've never cared for naming a child after one of the parents. If somehow we ever do have a child, I hope to god it's a girl because otherwise we're going to have a knock-down-drag-out over that one.
