Name That Imp

Here's a thought ...

If I choose a surname that falls before ALLEN alphabetically, I'll be the first one listed on the author page.

Jade Air?
Stormy Air?

Miss Aardvark. No-one will ever get in front of you on the author lists!

See, that never did appeal to me. I think your writing is good enough that your name, regardless of what you decide, will stand at the top of reader's list based on it's appeal. I always thought it was better to be scouted out wherever my name fell in the alphabet, rather than be easily found and lazily remembered.

*shrug*

I'm odd, though.

It will be a factor ... but not THE factor. The name has to click, first and foremost.

I offer Jade Abbondi.

Jade, because you like it. Abbondi, because it apparently means 'overflowing' (wetter?) ( and it's earlier in the alphabetical list than Allen!)

I like "Jade" as a first name as well....it speaks to me out of my past. I like it as a first name though.

what about a surname that speaks to you on a different level? either something with a definition you like, or perhaps has some relation to someone you once knew?

I would say don't get too cute with it. You don't want to sound too flighty or casual...

Interesting. Will look further into foreign words/names. Italian appeals, as I have a strong connection.

Yes, I agree.

Sent an e-mail to the publisher to inquire ... and she said to practice signing it before choosing:

From experience, it's usually best to choose a pen name that COULD be a real name, unusual yet believable, memorable, flows nicely off the tongue, AND suits your inner diva. Also good to practice the signature before you decide. It's terrible to have a pseudonym that doesn't autograph well.

Yes, I do take publication seriously ... but I don't EVER expect to be signing autographs (nor do I ever WANT to).

Jade Ali (for the alphabetical thing)

Jade Raine

Raine is interesting ...

... as is Eros.

Adams (despite the alphabetical advantage) would always bring to mind images of Uncle Fester (although I know that one's Addams). ;)

1) It goes with the job. That is what a book signing is, after all. I agree. Try signing it and see if you like it. You didn't get to chose your real name, but you do this one.

2) Listen. You are signing at least one fucking autograph or I will spank you so hard you won't sit for a week. And I dare say that I will not be the only one with a demand for a signed copy either...

...and I actually toned down part two. Damn, I'm in a bossy mood ...

Shucks. I was hoping there'd be a poll and I could just vote, not think of a clever one!
