Naked, Provocatively Clothed, or in Between?

Where do you stand on states of undress and sexual titillation and seduction? What do your characters do?

I admit to being a very gazey hetero male and therefore my FMCs usually chose their dress or undress carefully and with calculated intent. Being a femdom fetishist in particular they are usually more fully dressed than not. Tantalizing while remaining out of reach. Even if, in classic CFNM situations, their targets are most certainly not. When some clothes do come off, it is usually half measures. Top off, but bottom, maybe even bra, stay on. Bottom comes off, but top, maybe even panty, stay on. Top and bottom come off, but lingerie and heels stay on. Or the top and bottom are on, but they are barefoot and there is nothing underneath. Any of those can be made as much, if not more, seductive that full nudity in my view. In the world of my stories, full female nudity is rare. Unless the FMC is a cuckoldress, then, flipping the script, she may underline her total availability to the other man in her birthday suit.

What are your views and preferences in this regard?

Naked. It's a "house rule" in many of my stories. Going out? Short skirts subject to revealing breezes, guys stay clothed but wear shorts commando, subject to playful pantsing by FCs.

Honestly? I feel like there's a reason lingerie exists.

Like, if you're talking with a potential partner, they can either be lustful or vulgar, and, while it's easy to pass from one to the other, only one of them will lead to more. In most cases, at least. I assume, if I walk up to a stranger and straight-up tell them how much I wanna stick something into their holes, that's gonna earn me a disgusted slap more than an excited giggle.

But the same goes for visuals. You can either be sexy, by using form-enhancing lingerie that clearly communicates the wearer's intent while still leaving the important parts up to my imagination, or they can simply pull blank and demand we get started. One is exciting... the other is just sex.

My characters end up naked eventually. But I like to build to that, so when it happens it's a payoff of sorts. I often have an element of CFNM in my stories, so the male character's losing his clothes before everyone else. But even that isn't happening right away. The characters can only see each other naked for the first time once, and I don't like to rush it.

Depends on the story. Sometimes casual nudity that becomes less casual is exciting. Sometimes the slow, purposeful reveal is exciting. Sometimes the accidental or "accidental" flash is exciting. Sometimes the only thing sexier than a nude woman is a topless woman with long pants on. Sometimes the only thing sexier than a nude woman is a bottomless woman with a long sleeved sweatshirt or a man's t-shirt on.

There's just too many delicious ways for a woman to be dressed, or not, to limit myself to just one.

In fiction stories, a naked person has a certain alure.

But in real life, if you go to a nude resort, you'll find that old truism: "Be careful what you wish for." That fictional alure soon fades. You'll soon begin to notice every flaw in the body which some clothes are designed to hide.

The alure of nudity or partial clothing is situationally dependent. And it also depends on the attitudes of those involved in the situation. I could introduce you to my wife at a nude resort, and if you said or did the wrong thing, she'd make your balls cringe and shrink, ... while standing naked in front of you. Of course, in exactly the same situation with the right behavior, she'd have you standing at attention, even if you didn't want to.

It's highly situational for how much and how often.

As noted above; fiction can remove the flaws.

Nude resorts don't tend to grab all the Ken and Barbie types. They get the Ed and Trixie Norton (The Honeymooners side cast older couple) types.

When you write in genre fiction - sci fi, fantasy, super hero, etc - you can use gimmicks to make bodies more perfect. But even there it can be refreshing at times if not everyone is 100% perfect or if the 'perfect' character is called out as unusual as part of the plot.

This is probably one of the reasons Exhib fiction loves underaged characters that authors lie and pretend are actually 18 in only one single disclaimer at the story start... Because it makes it easier to pretend body flaws are not as there as they should be.

In an isolated erotic moment - as noted above lingerie and garments can heighten the moment. That should be obvious.

I mostly write where the main POV protagonist is for some reason always nude (24/7). That can get 'old' after a few scenes. But it's also a specific kink that I am writing for. In what I read I go all over the place because again - even when nudity is your kink - time, place, degree, and so on matter.

This. My stories nearly always have variations on the theme, from fully dressed with buttons being undone, to completely naked with every item of jewellery off.

I exclusively write CFNM, so my muscled up, well hung, exhibitionist recurring MC spends most of his time starkers, as we sometimes say in Australia. The women often lose their clothes too, but usually well after he's lost his. Did someone once say that clothing is like gift wrapping paper...just waiting to get ripped off? 😉

Variety is always good WRT female costumes.

Some of my tales, of course, are self-limiting; mermaids for instance aren’t big on lingerie. I have one series which is CMNF and another which is CFNM, so those are non-starters, too, and another with the MCs being casual nudists.

Outside of that, I’ve had the MFC dressed for the evening in just corset and heels under a long coat. I’ve done a couple where her costume consisted mainly of pearls - lot of pearls - and one with her wearing just sapphires and a silk peignoir. Some stories have stressed fancy lingerie. I’ve done some where she was clearly braless and think that was effective. Drifting into kink, some ladies have been dressed in collars and cuffs (including one with a fancy sun hat!) and several where their dress was mainly many lengths of fine, fine chains. I’m working on one involving just body paint. Variety works.

All that said, I firmly believe that: a) women wear their prettiest outfits into the shower and that b) confidence is a class of lingerie all by itself - nothing is sexier than a woman with utter confidence in herself and her own desirability.

For me, it depends entirely on the story. So, from that, I'd deduce I don't have any sort of clothing fetish, because it's entirely incidental to the tale.

Provocative but practical clothing. Fantasy wise, I like female rogues in leather jumpsuits, witches in robes, and paladins in form fitting plate mail in equal measure. Chainmail bikinis are impractical and dumb. For modern day women, jeans and button down or T-shirts are great, pantsuits or dresses can be also if appropriate to the situation. Same for swimwear. I’m not usually into lingerie as more than a statement and something to be quickly removed. Not into costumes outside cosplay or Halloween.

Another consideration of clothing in a story is how the subject loses it.

A gorgeous woman could get on-stage at a strip club and stand there just taking her clothes off ... and men won't find that as attractive as the average woman doing the same thing with more provocative moves to the music. My wife says she had a fantasy of working as a stripper to flirt with men. She's not afraid of getting onstage and being naked in front of a group of men. Her fear is that she can't do it as seductively as the pros! It's about attitude!

And even reluctance, as in losing clothes in strip poker, has a certain provocative alure.

I like it all, because I'm highly visual and enjoy vivid descriptions of naked and scantily clad women.

Never short change the erotic power of the ACT of undressing; it can be as sexy as the state of nakedness that results.

Or being so horny that the clothes only come half off. There's something sexy about having a character whose trousers are still caught around one ankle, for instance.

Lots of contrasts. What can the characters see or feel in regard to their or someone else's clothing? Some clothing is often filthier than none.

I tend to end up with a lot of topless people, or just in underpants of some sort, but what is revealed around clothing is particularly interesting. One character recently observed a guy's cock looking substantial in jeans, with those small horizontal creases on each side. Another ends up wearing a skirt that's indecently short and feeling more naked than she would have done without it.

Clothes afford the opportunity to introduce different senses into the story: visual, of course, but touch as well. The way air feels moving under a dress when a woman wears no panties. The feel of a stringy thong panty under the thin fabric of a dress.

One of my all time favorite comments I received from a reader was being told that the reader came at the moment the man's finger touched the woman's panties, before either of them had even gotten undressed. I felt I'd done something right when I read that.

I never put my female characters in slutty clothes. No lingerie, low-cut dresses, or high heels. It’s always sharp business suits or sensible casual attire. Partially I find female characters more relatable if they dress in everyday clothes, but I also love the contrast between how we present ourselves to the world, and the women we become when we’re naked and horny.

My characters run the gamut as far as clothed, unclothed, proactively clothed. I want to give each scene it's own flavor and clothing ties into that quite bit.

Provacatively clothed. Nudity is nice but without some foreplay it becomes boring after a while. Fully clothed… can be boring as well. Provactively, then you’re hinting at what is underneath, like that present under the Christmas tree that is just the right size that it might be what you’ve been begging Santa for.

Well, practically speaking, there are very few "perfect" female bodies in this world. Most vary from "OK" to "pretty good" when naked. It's when they have something on that they become erotic, at least to me. It might be a negligee or it might be just jeans and a top, but a woman can be very erotic when dressed. I think it's like stonedinstilletos said. It's like when you got a football as a Christmas present. You knew it was a football because of the wrapping. You had to open it to figure out if it was made of real leather or if it was a plastic imitation.

Victoria's Secret has made a small fortune wrapping women so they look like something they aren't. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Most women are well aware of what they consider their "flaws" and will go to great lengths to hide them. If it makes them feel better about themselves, I'm all for it. A woman who feels sexy probably looks and acts sexy too.

In my writing, I tend to have my main character verbalize what he or she sees when the woman is dressed. When she's undressed, I prefer to concentrate on how her body feels to her partner rather than looks when she's naked.

Clothes maketh the man, and the story, at least they maketh my thtories:

From "Training", where Libby, a naive android is learning about clothes:

Methodically Libby figured out the catches and straps on the brassiere and finally put it on over her full breasts. She even managed the clasp.

And then she was faced with yet another challenge. But by now she was ready for it: She successfully caught the next item he threw at her, a plain red tee shirt. She quickly put in on. Back to front.

"The label goes at the back," said Waldo. She pulled the tee shirt off, over her head, which turned it inside out in the process. She found the label. She started to put the tee shirt back on. "Inside out," crowed Waldo gleefully. After a few more attempts Libby finally got it right.

"Take a look in the mirror, Libby," Waldo said.

Libby looked in the closet mirror. "I see -- my body, which is wearing clothes. When I move my right arm, the reflection moves its left arm. Why is that?"

"Never mind that. Do you like what you're wearing? Do you think it looks nice?"

"I don't know. Do you like it?"

"Yes. I think you look sexy in clothes."

"Because it hides my body, and that means... I get it, Waldo!"

"What do you get?"

"It means that hiding things is good! Like hiding how smart I am."

[One week later]

"Okay, Waldo. Watch me dress, I've been practicing. I'm really good at it now."

I see on his bedside table a red apple; he likes to keep one there. I recall a dream: A woman called Eve gave a man called Adam an apple. Red is used as a signal by fruiting plants, telling the birds that their fruit is sweet, ripe, and ready to eat. Red signifies "eat me". I select from the rail a red Chinese dress.

I smooth it down against the curves of my hips. I appraise myself front, side and three-quarter view in the closet mirror. I see him watching me in the mirror, admiring me.

He signals arousal and desire: His pupils dilate, his jaw becomes slack. "Oh God..." he says, shaking his head. And his dick hardens.

I smile at his reflection, signaling that I appreciate and acknowledge his desire.

I am a signal processing expert. My signals control him.
