Mysterious Circumstances (pm to discuss joining)

April joined David and Kate on their way outside where they found Jocelyn and Caleb watching Jason working at the grill.

A drowsy looking Natalia came down to find Erik standing in the kitchen doorway, also taking in the sight. She hugged him."Thank you. I needed that." She said, wrapping her arms around him.

May now sat on the hill, her knees up to her chin. She thought about Kate's words on therapy. Did she need it? Yes, yes she did. But she didn't want to approach her and ask for it. That was like a beg for attention. She also didn't see how it would help her either. And besides, they all had their own troubles to worry about. Parenting, marriage. She knew it wasn't how they wanted it to go. She couldn't imagine. It would definitely be a hard thing, and May figured she would not get into a relationship. She picked up a stone and threw it angrily into the lake, it wasn't fair, they all looked forward to a new life, new start and then they arrive, and she gets them in trouble, and they are givin the news of having to have two children.

May felt rage boiling inside her at this whole new planet, along with sympathy mixed in. May stared at the Orange and pink of the sky, which went from pink to blue. As evening started to creep. The sun wasn't visible but the sky was, mainly orange and pink.

Except for the peacefully slumbering engaged couple upstairs and m.i.a. May, the rest of the newcomers assembled to help Jason in setting the table. Meanwhile, the police were changing guard shifts and the day shift went home once the night shift had come to relieve them.

Kate and Jason began a discussion of the devices on her and her crew's arms and how hers had blown somehow and broken during the time it had been used to connect her to the pilot's station on the bridge of the drop ship. This reminded April to inform him about the dome and its inclusion of a deluxe indoor park, a cattle farm, a set of fully stocked science laboratories, and a library with three rapid education units, a bank of ten laptop computers, and a dozen tablet computers. He looked suitably impressed. She and Kate shared a proud grin.

Once the table was set Jason motioned for everyone to sit down. "I hope you all like your steaks medium rare. If you want them cooked a little more feel free to use the grill I won't be offended," he smiled. "Now in the jugs I have home made lemonade for those that don't drink, oh and that includes me by the way, and in the small one there is what we simply term Lightning in a bottle. I recommend you only take a very small amount of that or mix it with the lemonade at first. It has been known to knock the strongest men off their feet if their not prepared for it. Now dig in before everything gets cold."

He waited for them all to serve themselves and continued his discussion with Kate and April. The dome sounded wonderful and considering it was out near his farm and a few neighboring ones it could prove very useful. He especially wanted to see the cattle and how they may differ from the ones they had on planet already. Maybe a breeding program could be set up if they were very different. However he did not mention that given the situation. That could be mentioned at a later time.

He was intrigued by the science laboratories, but the computers and such might be beyond him. "So do you think you could get your arm device fixed Kate. I would hate to see you cut off from the rest of your crew. Also it may be a good idea to keep this from my father. None of the other new arrivals have had these before and it may prove useful for you to stay in touch with one another until you are all comfortable here. Speaking of which, perhaps you would like to come out and see my farm tomorrow. I thought it might be good for you to actually see a place where you might actually be working. I also thought it might be good for May. Get her away from everything. Speaking of which where is she?"

Kate looked around, "I haven't a clue. Jocelyn, was she with you all in your room?"

Jocelyn shook her rainbow tressed head, "No. She never came up to unpack. I think she went for a walk."

April raised an eyebrow, "We're surrounded by security. Can she even do that?"

Officer Temple spoke up, "Miss, any of you are free to roam around if you take one or two of us along...until The Council decides othrrwise. You're not in prison, just being looked after."

"Oh, ok, then." Said April. "Good to know."

"Lightning in a bottle? That just sounds like a challenge." Erik said with a cocky grin. He poured himself a large glass of the neon blue liquid into his glass. "Thor bless me!" He shouted before chugging the drink in a few gulps. "That's no so bad." Erik said wiping his mouth. "In fact, if that's the strongest thing you guys have, I'd say you're a bunch of lightweight..." Erik stopped speaking as his head slammed into the table as he passed out.

David took the bottle from beside the snoring Erik and put the lid firmly back on it. "April. Do not let Austin find out about this stuff." David said placing the bottle back in the center of the table. He then cut into his steak and ate a piece of the meat. "This is excellent Jason. Really excellent." David said digging into his meal.

After a moment of eating David turned to Officer Temple. "How many officers are present on the island? And how many per shift? I'm sure I'll learn all of this from the guys in charge, but it will be good to get to know the men I'll be working with. And if you're allowed to, you should join us. All of the officers. There's plenty of good food, and I doubt anyone will object." David said looking around the table at the others.

Temple stood up straighter when he remembered who it was addressing him. Within a week Sheriff Rothfeld will be retiring and this man would take his place. "Sir, there's currently seventeen officers stationed on this island. Nineteen including yourself and, uh...him." he said, nodding to slumbering Erik. "In total, the colony has a police force of thirty officers, including both of you. And, um, thank you for the kind offer, Sir, but I ate before my shift. I'll just have a glass of water if nobody minds, Sir." He said.

"Please. Just call me David. I'm not even your boss yet." David laughed making room for the officer. "I was a beat cop my entire career. I never made it anywhere close to detective, not even lieutenant. I don't plan on being a hard ass. I'll make sure the job gets done, right, but I won't pretend that I'm better than anyone on the force. I'm just a monkey with a bigger hat." David joked handing Officer Temple a glass of water. "Besides us showing up and disturbing the peace, this place seems pretty laid back. How often are officers needed?" David asked curiously taking a sip of his lemonade.

Temple sipped his water, "Thanks, S...uh...David. I'm Will. Actually, it's usually pretty peaceful. Only occasionally is there a disturbance at the local pub or an act of youthful vandals. Even relations in the city with The Cousins is pretty alright as long as people folow Hildegarde's guidelines on interactions with their culture (bowing in greeting everytime someone new enters the room, not picking up any of their children unless given permission, never laughing when one of their females is talking unless she's also laughing...That sort of thing...). I'm sure you got the pamphlet about it with all of the introductory materials the Council gave you, right?"

Hilde dispatched a messenger boy on horseback to get a message to Jason. It read:
'Please, send my apprentice Austin and a guest of his choosing (and an officer if the council insists he have a guard) to my home today. I have stew on the hub and fresh pecan pie for dessert. I'd like to meet him. I'll be waiting and keeping everything warm as long as I can but I would prefer they come before 8pm tonight since I usually go to bed pretty early.

-Hilde'

The messenger boy handed the note to Jason and rushed off to deliver the rest of his day's messages.

Jason read the message and sighed. He looked around and didn't spot the man called Austin. "Sorry looks like I need to go find Austin. His new boss Hilde wants to meet him tonight for dinner. Guess she wants to discuss what he will be doing with her. He has been invited along with a guest to her residence for dinner of stew and pecan pie. He is a lucky guy. Hilde's pecan Pie is famous around here. The only thing is he needs to leave quickly. She goes to bed pretty early and it is already 6 and it takes almost an hour to get to her residence by wagon. I am happy to take him and whoever is going but we need to go very quickly."

April stood from the table. "I'll fetch him." She announced, disappearing inside to find her boyfriend.

It was no longer sunset, and the sky was now a darker light blue, May decided it was time to head back before she brought any attention to herself. As she approached quietly, she watched April dart inside, she also saw Jason, she saw everyone else except for Yuet and Aziz. She quickly and swiftly walked past everyone without acknowledging them, just trying to avoid them. She went upstairs and entered the room quietly, she unpacked her stuff and went back downstairs, and sat at the dining room table. And stared at the wall in thought.

OOC: Somebody give me something to work with soon. I do drastic plot twists when left idle.

OOC: Well I have to wait for Austin to show up but okay I guess I better talk to people that are left before someone goes psycho out here :D

While Jason waited he looked at the people who were left at the table. It seemed that a couple had not come down for dinner and he wondered why. Had he done something to offend them, or was it the situation that was bothering them. He hoped it wasn't the later, as he had tried to explain they didn't need to make a decision right now, they still had a lot of leeway because of their circumstances.

Jason looked at Jocelyn, Caleb and Natalia. If he remembered rightly Natalia was the one who was trained in animal husbandry. Maybe she would be interested in coming to look how his farm ran. He would also like to see how the one on the dome was run as well.

"So do any of you want to come out and see my Farm? It will give you the chance to at least get a bit of freedom from this place. Of course we will be riding horses but I assume you were taught the basics of that in those machines of yours. I mean it would be silly if you weren't as it is the main form of getting around out here."

Austin groaned as April shook him awake. He'd fallen asleep after she'd left for dinner, and he wasn't happy to be woken up. "What?" He groaned as he rolled over to face her. She wordlessly handed him the note, and he read it growing more irritated. "Can't she wait until morning?" Austin growled crumpling up the paper and tossing it into the corner. He was about to go back to sleep, but the expression on April's face told him she wouldn't leave him alone. "Fine. Let's go." He groaned getting out of bed.

He threw on a slayer t-shirt, a pair of black jeans, and a pair of black boots before following April outside. He walked up to Jason, still pissed off he'd been woken up before he wanted to be. "April's my guest. Let's go." Austin growled getting into the back of the wagon with April. He lied down and placed his head in April's lap. "Wake me up when we get there." He whispered before closing his eyes.

"Angry youths huh? I've dealt with that already." David said as May quietly made her way into the house. "But I'm glad it's peaceful here. Hopefully it will stay that way despite our more hot tempered 'family members'." David said as Austin emerged from the house looking slightly more pissed off than usual. "These damn moody kids." David thought sipping his lemonade. "Tell me more about these cousins. None of us have seen any pamphlets yet. And what about the merfolk? I assume you get along as well?" David asked Will.

Natalia smiled, "I would like that a great deal!" She said.

Caleb smiled as well, "Could I come too?" He asked.

Jocelyn had been curious what made this family tick. Jason seemed down to earth and personable while his father had seemed stiff, cold, and unyielding. At least, that's the impression she'd gotten in that brief introduction earlier. She decided to go along in order to find out more. "I'll come too. I don't want to risk waking up the newly engaged lovebirds or interrupting any possible alone time they may be having by going to our room right now, anyway." After helping clean up from dinner they prepared to join Jason. The dusk on this planet wasn't a quick affair with two suns. They still had a good four hours or more left of light in the day, anyway.

Officer Kendal Taylor drove the wagon and would be their security detail at Hilde's. As the old woman's great niece she found it fitting to be their escort and Jason had agreed.

Hilde was sitting on her porch with her old, tortoise shell cat on her lap when they arrived. "Welcome, oh, and Kendal too! What a nice surprise, dear. How are those gorgeous kids?"

OOC: Kendal is a 35 year old mother of three. Widowed since the plague ten years ago. Her kids are 9, 10, and 12. SlySparrow, could you NPC her when necessary to move plot along? She's proactive and not prone to moodiness (we don't need two characters written the same way) so this could be a nice way to flex your creative muscles a bit.

Will shrugged, "There's not much to tell. The pamphlets explain a lot...oh, those merfolk...nympho's, all of them." He laughed, "...but, really sweet."

OOC: Sure why not.

OOC: Thanks.
I edited Hilde's greeting. Kendal is on.
And, feel free to have May interact with someone eventually.

Kendal smiled and beamed. "Oh their great!!! They miss you Hilde! You should stop by sometime" She said smiling.
