Opening statement

I believe it is a method for the governemnt and pharma cartel agencies to take food production out of the hands of the people, toward the end of a government run socialist state of government supplied food to those who tow obedience toward the government.

Surrounding thoughts

I have seen the growing trend here in canada and in some of the newengland and farming states of the US of where "test" crops are planted near regular crops, and due to the nature of pollination/cross pollination in the open environment the "test" crops breed with non "test" subjects creating a cross breed plant.

Some farmers have been having thier farms confiscated on the grounds that the new genetic foods are patented/copy righted to the government organization and/or pharmacartel and thus the farmer loses the right to his lively hood.

Soon as the rate of farm and livelyhood and food production goes into the hands a very select few pharmacartel/government controled individuals food becomes a leveraging tool garner and keep suport of the people. In other words obey the man or don't eat.

Conclusion

I don't mind genetic foods as mich as i mind the methiods in which it can and will possibly be used to control the populace. If thier is a way of preventing control of food ownership to the few and keep it open to the many it would be much better.

On a side note, If I am eating a genetically altered food, I want to know exactly what has been done to each individual food. What has been added to or taken away from the product I am about to consume, we have been lied to for years about the effects of ciggarettes and nicotene, the effects of prolonged usage of florides, and artificial sweetners, how can we simply take the words of these organizations that lied to us in the past that they are not or will not lie to us in the future.

It's very scary to me. I am constantly amazed at how little consideration an awful lot of people give to the food they put into their bodies every day. I mean, free country and all, if you want to shovel shit down your gullet for years and then spend the last years of your life fighting cancer and high blood pressure and acid reflux and heart disease and all that by having to take handfuls of (absurdly expensive) prescription drugs...

I recently read the book "Fast Food Nation," and realized how naiive I was about the food-production industry. Disconcerting, but extremely insightful.

I didn't realise that there was much in the way of opposition to GM crops on your side of the pond. Over here in Europe GM crops are a very contentious issue with a majority of people expressing an opinion that they would rather not eat modified foods. All foodstuffs that contain GM ingredients have to be clearly marked.

I can't speak for the rest of Europe, but here in the UK testing is underway on GM crops including study into it's effect on wildlife and the chance of cross pollenation. There's also been a spate of attacks on fields of crops being grown for these tests and many farmers are now reluctant to take part in the tests.

I understand the chief arguement for GM crops, that they have the potential to end world famines and accept that., but Europe and North America are already producing far more food than our populations could ever consume. We already have huge grain, beef and butter mountains, not to mention wine and milk lakes.
