My Votes Were Erased

Trying to catch up a bit, I read and voted for a bunch of poems several days ago. Some 2's, 3's, 4's, and 5's and some I left comments some I did not. Many times I do not like a style and am not going to suggest that someone change their style just because I do not like it. Why bother. But I can vote. That someone voted less than perfect sends a signal that someone is not crazy about the style and nothing else.

What is very very interesting that many of these poems Still have 5.0 averages on the top list even though I gave many 4's and some 3's.

Interesting that perhaps people think because a poem starts with a 5.0 that it should keep its 5.0 and anything lower must be from a troll... and should be swept away to keep the record clean.

So I wonder, if my first vote gets erased by the perfection enforcer, will my second vote have any possibility of sticking? Or will I be seen as another troll trying to vote twice?

I know, it has been peaceful without talk of voting, but it irks me that we have this kind of censorship of opinion.

I can't really answer your question. But I do know that I have a poem sitting with a 5 on the top list; several days ago it was lower (and had been for a few weeks) and then one vote fell off and put me back at a 5. Other than that, there hasn't been any movement. So...if mine happened to be one of those you cast a vote on, it didn't register. Which means that there may have been a glitch instead of censorship.
Course, if mine wasn't one of them, you can ignore everything I just said. :)

Such are the joys of the voting system. I think I got some troll (maybe critical votes. Maybe yours!) votes washed away from one of my poems, it upped the average but I lost the clambered for H because I now have less than 10 votes. LOL!

I am not a troll I am not a troll

Which poem is it? I will go vote and get it back to ten again. Post the link :)

yeah censorship is a pretty inflammatory word, I should know better. :)

I know I asked someone very nicely to stir things up around here, whattya expect?

I bought a 20 pound bag of peanuts so the squirrels can entertain me with their frantic search for a pre-snow feast.

You're far to pretty and flutter your eye lids way too much to be a troll.

I'm not sure it is worth a five but hell, I'm not going to complain should you think it's the greatest thing you have ever read.

It was one of my rare erotic poems which I never feel confident about.

Isn't that a Christmas carol? Peanuts roasting on an open crotch... :nana:

I think only multiple votes from the same isp address are removed. If you accidently clicked twice and voted two fives, for example, both will eventually be removed--that's what I've heard.

Trolls can't find their way to a man's heart like you can AS :rose:

Glad you liked it.

*The things a man will gratefully lick for his Hs* Hmm that's rather ambiguous

I don't understand why you would consider making a second vote if you allready voted...that to me would be the ...going over board with trying to instill a defacing rating just because in your opinion the poem is not worthy a 5....

I have seen this conversation played out in many different ways <grin> and it seems to me the poetry and reading and sharing / teaching is the most important part and makes the bigger difference than telling some one that their poem is not that good by leaving a low vote with no comment as to why <grin>

okay I stepped up to bat... swing away <grin> still bored (*_*)

Naah, too bored to bother.

But 'twas an interresting post from my academic viewpont. "Trying to instill a defacing rating" was a masterful ad hominem by proxy. Or if you will, a defacement. ;)

okay after I thought about it... <bigrin>

perhaps the way you vote or I should say the place your voting...like the top list, (I don't know how the moderation of that goes ...but) perhaps they see it as late attacks for the poems have been off the new poem list for awhile and out of the blue several get low votes from one person and may be even twice <grin>...that leads to the next question....

perhaps it is guardian ship or moderating like the post that were removed for what ever reason on the threads the one in charge saw it differently <grin>

I don't know that we can answer your question satisfactory without the correct knowledge as to why but... you have raised the issue of why would some one go through the top list and give them 4's and '3's to regulate the list...is that a form of manipulation or sensorship? Just curious what drives a person to do this <grin>

After further thought, I sort of wonder, do votes get removed because they're low or because they're inconsistent with the other votes on a piece? If, for example, I have a poem with eleven votes of 5, and vote twelve is a two, would that vote be seen as a "troll" vote because it is so inconsistent with the others? On the other hand, if a poem is averaging two's and three's, another two vote wouldn't stand out at all.
Just curious.

Anna, I have no idea whether you voted again or not, but the poem of mine at the top of the list is quite off now, so someone's votes are sticking, for the moment anyway.

oh I was just curious. If a REAL vote gets deleted for no good reason, you would think that maybe I would get a chance. It would not be voting twice. It would be replacing a REAL vote that got deleted perhaps because someone did not like the 4 that ruined a perfect score. See? 1-1=0+1=1 One vote.

Blah blah MET, a 3 or 4 is not a low vote. and blah blah blah the 4 is a comment. it means okay it is okay. not suggesting you change anything but it is okay.

teaching is one thing.
it is not the only thing or there would not be monthly contests. I see you are in a contest. That is not about teaching. It is about votes. Period.

Defacing rating? Ha ha ha ha. You are so funny! I almost peed my pants with that one!

"just because in your opinion the poem is not worthy a 5.... "

what do you mean Just. All votes are Just because.... why is mine different

I don't vote twice.

That was a hypothetical question.

I read the top list sometimes when I have not been able to keep current with the new poems. The top list is supposed to be the best, right? So I figure I can go get a snapshot. I am not the only person who does this, it is the reason for the top list. Only a few regulars read every poem every day. It is those EARLY votes that are skewed, not the ones that roll in later. The Early votes come from people who are waiting for new poems to come out, the regulars who are here for social reasons in addition to creative reasons. It is like little league-- the parents come and cheer on the kids, then when you get up to the majors, you might have people who do not love you in the stands, you know?

I do not rate the toplist more harshly than I do any poem, nor do I vote to regulate anything. I vote how I vote because of the same reason some people vote--- according to my opinion of how good the poem is.

Why on earth my giving a vote as an opinion on the piece (when compared with the poems that I have been reading for over 2 years that are no longer on the top list) would be censorship, or sensorship is beyond me.

oh I am not going to vote again, I was just speaking hypothetically. I really don't remember if I voted on yours or not, I really try not to look at names, just the poem. I do know that I had not voted on Bogusbrig's poem that he said fell off the top list, so maybe it was mine maybe it wasn't. I do know I have enjoyed many of your poems :)

I dont think the vote regulator looks at the pattern of votes... it deletes votes from the same IP address. However, if someone complains because they think they were low voted for reasons other than someone just not thinking their poem deserved a 5, then maybe they take that into consideration individually. Not sure.

but I am not going to vote again, I do not vote twice for any reason. And y'all know I would not lie, I mean hell, I brought up the fact that I :gasp: vote lower than 5 on poems!!!

:)

I am surprised no one has spanked me yet for bringing up voting again?

damn it.

I guess some people know I like the spanking too much and what really irks me is when someone says that my voting according to my opinion is censorship.

as if my vote is not as important as the 5's from the faithful
