my thread

anyway, sorry I missed you.
Sorry I couldn't stay last night - I was wiped out and just had to crash and burn.

I was teasing about you taking advantage of me ya know - I know you are more of a gentleman than that - figured you'd probably just curl up next to me and spoon.........hmmm spoonin' with Moonbeam - that sounds really nice.

It is all kinds of foggy here today but temps in the upper 30's so not a horrible day. I bundled up and took my coffee out on the back deck this morning to listen to the neighbor's auction. Guess he's selling out of the farming business - quite a crowd. I love auctions - can hardly ever afford anything but the auctioneer calling really gets me. I've always thought I'd like to be an auctioneer but (despite what some people think) I don't think I could talk that fast.

Already Winter Storm Warning out for tonight and tomorrow - another 8 or so inches and then tomorrow high winds will boost it to a Blizzard Warning - WHOOPEE crap. So, it's off to the grocery later this afternoon (after husband gets home from work) to get some supplies and get the ham and all the fixin's for Christmas Day at mom's.

well, that blows. since you're not actually taveling til christmas day, tho, maybe it'll be mellowed out by then. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks hon - hope it has it all out of its system before it gets to your corner of the world. The weather guessers are saying it's supposed to be nice for Christmas - plus we only have to go about 11 miles to mom's so no huge distances to travel.

Are you in charge of fixin' the food for Christmas or will you have some help? AND - as long as I'm being nosy - do you have anything traditional that you always have to have for your Christmas meal. For me it's a cheesy greenbean casserole my mother has made since I can remember - and a baked pineapple casserole. And of course what would ham be without a sweet potato casserole to go with it. There will only be 3 of us but we fix enough for 12 so we have plenty of left overs.

when I was growing up (as far as I can remember), we always had turkey and the trimmings for christmas. I'm pretty basic, tho... all I need is the turkey, stuffing and rolls. I can live with or without taters and gravy, and I hate that green bean casserole stuff. that cheesy one sounds like it's not the same thing... I'd think about trying that.

what we eat now kind of depends on where dinner is. when we get together at my sis's (like this year), there's no telling what dinner might be. she's fixed mexican food, pasta... this is kind of a rough year, tho, I guess.... she told my bro we might be having frozen pizzas, and I don't think she was kidding. lol. sure gonna miss the turkey, but since I'm not in a position to pay for anything, I'll just have to take what I can get. the most important thing is we'll all be together.

glad you only have to go 11 miles... I was gonna ask.

True - being with family is the most important thing - not so much the food.

For us it's always Turkey on Thanksgiving and Ham at Christmas.

The green bean casserole is my mothers invention

2 cans French cut green beans - drained
1 of the small bricks of Velvetta Cheese
1 can of Cream of Mushroom soup

pour the beans into a glass casserole dish
pour the soup into a pan on the stove and cube the cheese into it
slowly warm the soup until the cheese has melted and is stirred together to combine then pour over the beans.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes and bring to the table bubbling and yummy.

I lied. I want the food, dammit! if we can't have any presents, at least gimme turkey!!

*sigh*

sorry... gotta try to laugh to keep from wanting to shoot myself. lol.

the casserole sounds like the standard one with velveeta added.... so maybe I wouldn't try it. I think it's that cream of mushroom soup that makes me wanna puke.

Ahhh well then don't come to Wisconsin - you know the old Norwegians up here make EVERYTHIHG with cream of mushroom soup - it's a staple in the winter especially.

Well, maybe your sister was just joking about the pizzas - hmmm I'll hope so anyway. Pizza for Super Bowl Sunday is fine but for Christmas - I'm thinking "NO" - of course if you get Canadian Bacon on it - that's sorta like ham and if you use turkey burger stuff for a topping - well....it's kinda close.

of course being together really is the most important thing. there are just a lot of things about this year that I wish were different. if we have to have frozen pizza, well... I like that, too. a fat boy like me didn't get so big my being really choosy about what he eats. lol.

I know sweets - this hasn't exactly been a banner year for me either. BUT, that's what makes a new year so exciting - hard to tell what you'll get but, at least, it will most likely be different from what you had. Hmmm and as someone once said "Life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get" - ummm less you turn the chocolate over and stick your finger in the bottom - but that's a "hole" 'nuther story.

as someone once said "Life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get"
someone also said, "moonbeam is as moonbeam does." lol.

I just finished watching my favorite christmas movie - die hard. :D

last night I was chatting with someone and she asked me if I'd ever written anything. she was trying to encourage me to do some writing... said I could do record reviews or something, which made me think of a review I once wrote on a site I made for butterfly jones' debut cd, napalm springs.

she wanted to see it, so I went searching. it used to be easy, but I lost all my bookmarks. while I was looking around I was telling her about this class I took a few years ago. well, about 10 years ago, now. lo and behold, I couldn't find the butterfly jones site, but I found an old site of mine that I didn't even realize still existed, on which I had posted a couple of things I'd written for that class.

it was pretty weird, but in a good way. it was definitely weird to read those things again. kind of embarrassing, too, but she said they were good. I think she was just being nice.

I'm thinking about it. last night I kind of worked on old of those old stories, changing things around to the way I would have written it today. so, we'll see.

I won't be around much today... getting ready to head up to sis's house for our christmas get together, so I'll be trying to pretend that I'm happy all day.

one thing I am happy about is that sis ordered a turkey dinner from one of the local grocery stores, so I'll get to have my turkey after all. I dunno if the frozen pizza thing was a joke, or if she just had a last minute change of plans and more money than she expected. either way, rock on.

I dunno if the frozen pizza thing was a joke
turns out that it was a joke. my brother says he thpught he made that clear to me, but he didn't. I really thought we were having frozen pizzas for dinner.

the big get together was fun, for the most part. always a bit of a headache when you get that many kids together in one spot, but it wasn't too bad. last time we got together my sis's kids sang some songs for us with their karaoke machine, so bro persuaded me to take my guitar so I could play a few songs. I should have declined because I haven't practiced a lot, but he seemed really keen on the idea.

as I expected, the kids didn't have a clue what any of the songs were. after a couple of minutes it seemed like everybody stopped listening, but I played for about fifteen minutes. I sucked, but I had fun anyway.

Boo! Running around like a chicken with my head cut off but thought I'd pop in and say hi :) Went and saw Sweeny Todd last night. It was actually quite good. If you're familiar with the story at all, it follows it really well.

Need to go make Chocolate Covered Cherry Bites for tomorrow. I'll check on you soon :D

hello there, stranger.

sweeney todd, huh? I'm not sure if I wanna see that or not. I'm not a huge johnny depp fan... I still haven't seen any of those damn pirate movies. cutting people up and putting them into pies might be more my speed, tho..... even if it is a musical.

tell ya what I really wanna see right now is walk hard: the dewey cox story. I like that style of humor. I thought the 40 year old virgin, knocked up and talladega nights were hilarious, and walk hard being set in the music world is a bonus.

good to see you. hope your cherries come out worth biting. lol.

WHOOO HOOOO - Moonbeam gets his turkey dinner. I'm glad the pizza thing was just a joke.

Our weather FINALLY settled down - cripes the snow snowed and the wind blowed so freekin' hard I though the house was coming off its foundation.

Today is prep day for me - not much though - just putting together the sweet potato casserole - all the rest can be done tomorrow. Got a nice 10 lb spiral cut ham - I can hardly wait to dig into that.

yeah, it was good to have some turkey, tho that ham sounds pretty damn good, too. I just like to eat, period. I already told my bro that if we ever get to where we have the money we're getting a bird and having some stuffing and rolls to go with it here. there's so many people when we all get together that there wasn't a whole lot left. most people complain about it, but I like having the leftovers.... we're such pigs that they never last that long, anyway.

I'm glad the weather mellowed out a little there. it was snowing pretty hard when we were on the way home last night, but it didn't stick. the wind was blowing pretty good all day yesterday, tho.... they were saying gusts up to 50 mph.

I've been doing laundry and dishes here while bro has mom at the dr.'s office. I wouldn't wanna do it all the time, but it's been kinda nice to feel a little useful for a change.

Haven't seen anything about that one. JD plays a pretty good mad person. That would be mad as in crazy :)

Off to get ready to go to my parents.

Merry Christmas!
