My story keeps getting rejected for "underage" sex

First of all, every single character in the story (there are only 5) are 18 and older. The characters are aged 18 (2 of them), mid-20s, 43, and mid-60s. The only sex is between one of the 18 year olds and the mid-20s character. There is one scene in a high school locker room between the two 18 year olds, but absolutely no sex. One of them is a bully.

I have other parts to the story I'm waiting to upload, but I'm not getting type of clear comments as to why the first part is being rejected. Only that I have underage characters, which I don't. The only reason I can think of is that the main character hasn't officially graduated high school yet, even though he's 18.

It could be how the characters talk. Are they using baby talk or otherwise speaking like someone younger than 18?

Descriptions could also be a problem, it could be things like budding breast, a few wispy pubic hairs growing in, or other signs the character is going through or just after puberty.

If you'd like I can take a look to see if I can find what is causing your issue.

Laurel only scans stories and if she see's something that catches her attention she rejects it. You have to explain why she's wrong when you resubmit.

I had a non-con story rejected. I copied and pasted the parts where the woman showed enjoyment into the comments box and it was approved. PM me or shoot me an email via my author page.

If it's in google docs just share the link via pm.

This Site will accept stories about high school students who are over 18. There might be a problem if they act too immature.

If you feel it meets the rules then send a message to Laurel defending the story and arguing that it should be published. Your argument might be successful. I've changed Laurel's mind in the past.

I have had a few stories rejected on underage that wasn't there. I've returned them with the declaration that no underage sex is included and asked that what was thought to be underage be shown to me. All of the stories then have been published as originally written. If you are sure of yourself on no underage sex being included, you might try that route. A lot of the submission decisions are made on supposition based on scanning, not reading. That's just the way it is in this high-volume turnover operation.

I've resubmitted and we'll see what happens. If anyone ACTUALLY reads it, they'll notice the reason they're rejecting it is 100% wrong. Even if they skim it, they can't miss the fact everyone's 18+. It's infuriating.

Did you do anything different from the previous time?

You indicated the story keeps getting rejected. If it comes back again, there might still be something Laurel doesn't approve of. In that case, get someone else to read the story and to find out what might trigger Laurel's rejection. You won't be the first author with a different opinion than the site-owner, and quite a lot of time, Laurel wins.

There is absolutely no one under the age of 18 in the story. Period. I added in one line to emphasize that the bully of the story is 18, even though it's already clear he is.

Seriously, all it takes is reading it, not doing a quick scan and assuming.

You may or may not be aware that the site editor wanders on occasion through the forums, so really, you're not doing yourself any favours.

If the story keeps getting rejected, there's something in the content that's setting off whatever alerts are in place, and you need to go through it again, more closely.

There's no point complaining here - the onus is on you to find whatever it is that is causing repeated rejections, and either fix it or re-argue your case - through the submission process, not here.

You're not going to get that and I doubt that you sent a check for the service. I took the time/effort to suggest what you could do about it--politely. Did you?

Off course using all caps is the opposite of politeness. ;)

Ah, well, you're the one with the issue.

I just want an explanation is all. Because there are 0 people in the story younger than 18.

You received replies and suggestions explaining what the problem could be. If you haven't made any changes to the original story, and it's still sent back as rejected, then you should consider following their advice. Stating someone is over eighteen doesn't guarantee anything.

Salacious_Scribe graciously reviewed my story for me. Agreed with me that every character is 18 and there's no underage sex. He also pointed what might be causing issues (i.e. using the word kindergarten) if the story is being run through a bot to catch key words.

Minor edits made, which doesn't inherently affect the story, though it's still incredibly frustrating.

Send a very polite comment/inquiry with the resubmission of your story making clear

1) that there is absolutely no sexual activity (broadly defined -- this includes voyeurism, fantasizing about sex, etc.) involving people under 18 AND

2) these characters are not PORTRAYED as though they are under 18, either -- a story can be rejected on this ground even though you say -- wink wink -- that they're over 18.

If you satisfy both these requirements you should be OK. Many stories with high school students make it through.

Thanks again to Salacious_Scribe for the help. It finally got published. Now I begin to upload the other parts.

I'm sure it is frustrating but as you discovered, sometimes all you have to do is make minor adjustments for the story to go through.

Good luck in the future.

Same thing happened to me, probably a bot snags words like "girl" or "boy" and automatically rejects the text

By having the stories take place in a college or mentioning that the characters are college students, I think makes it pretty clear that they're older than 18.
