My friends from my bomb-chuckin' days say I'm selling out.

My mother says I'm "Finally growing up" which, for some reason, makes me feel worse than what my friends say about me.

Well, whatever, regardless. I simply just don't have the drive to give two damns about politics anymore. American politics especially. I got married this year. I have a child on the way. In two years I've gone from angry college student to responsible head of a household(I can hear you chuckling, honey)

And when I read something Miles or AJ or the new batch says I just, well, I don't care as much. I'm not going to spend time thinking about them.

Look, previously, when I cared about politics, I had this incredible amount of festering anger and bitterness(Fighting politics on the left of left is mainly a losing battle)

So I can continue to attend Green Party meetings and be angry. Or hang out with my pregnant wife, playing Wilco songs on my accoustic to her stomach, and be happy. Genuinely happy.

So, to my old rivals, Ish, Bill, LTGR and the rest; Adios. To my friends on the left Lav, TP and the like; Keep up the fight.

To the crazies, Todd, AJ, RED; Get some sort of help.

I'll still vote I guess. And let NDP candidates put up their signs on my lawn. But I'm done.

From now on my posting is all Leaf games and why you all have terrible taste in music.

Weevil, if you care about your kid, you can't stop caring about politics. Without people who honestly give a crap about personal freedom, the world would be a pretty shitty place.

That said, I understand your frustration, and I think you're right in a way. Arguing with dumbasses on an Internet bulletin board doesn't change the world one iota. It's one thing to make a rival opinion known - it's another to let yourself get annoyed arguing with a bunch of strangers. It's banging your head against a wall.

Instead of arguing here or elsewhere, I'm going to put even more of my time to use helping the causes I believe in. I think you should - to the degree that you can - keep on supporting those who fight the good fight. Don't waste time arguing with blowhards, but don't just give up on your kid's future either.

I feel for you guys. I'll keep fighting the right while undermining the left. When I win, we'll all win.

I know the feeling. The only time I almost lean towards the Green, a Bush is elected. Plus, in the land of political activism, it seems that activism has done nothing except spawn more activism, having zero to little political effect.

Plus the Greens should start small anyway. Get a democrat elected. Baby steps.

Keep voting.

No, Laurel, it's more than that. My anger at idiots here is just symptomatic of my overall burn-out with politics in general. I figure, I worked hard so that I could move out to a nice neighborhood to give the kid a nice life another thing I can do is be less angry all the time and, well, it's working. I'm, overall happier and while there's a part of me that wants to keep raging against the machine, it's drowned out. I called this a decision but, sadly, it's a reality. I just have bigger things in my life

I'm still going to be active in my community. I just figure It'll be something along the lines of coaching girls hockey.

My job makes a difference. I work hard at it. I deal with political and administrative BS every day 9(If I'm lucky) to 5(Not if I want the weekend off) my outside time has to be more about fixin' the dishwasher and garden parties.

Other wise, I'd go all sorts of crazy.

You betcha. I bought her the Away Jersey yesterday but she might like the Home Leaf Jersey better so I'm stopping by Sportchek on the way home tonight.

I think she'll be a Shane Corson kind of kid.

What a very interesting thread. It's like watching a butterfly emerge from its cocoon. I can almost feel the life change within you weevil. Lit is full of magnificent snapshots of human life in all its stages and aspects.

Take care of the child in you, Weevil. Enjoy your own.

Weevil is being mature and this is probably a good thing.
You can care about politics and not let it rip your soul apart. It isn't that hard even, if you tend to just have a decent about of emotional control, but for people with deep passion, like weevil, stepping away from it and putting life into perspective will always lend way for a much more healthy approach to having passion for such things.

It can fuck your head up. We see examples of that around here DAILY.

The board says this thread was posted today but I swear I've read it before.

God, at least I am not the only one this happens to!

Never, that is odd, but you are the only person who has ever said that here, but on five or so different occaisions, I've read threads, I SWEAR I'VE READ BEFORE. Post for post, word for word.

Freaky. We have tapped in to the bb's brain.

Weevil...

Enjoy the transformation, Weevil. As you settle into a new home and your family becomes the center of your universe I think your interest in providing for and protecting them will spark your thoughts again.

Congratulations!

Focusing on family doesn't mean you've become a Conservative, quite the opposite Laurel, Weevil, and myself will argue.

We evolve throughout our lives and the angry young person is now the loving parent, live a good life and love your family.

Nothing matters more.

Don't get me wrong sucka, I'm still all hate to the state. I'm just going to be less vocal about it.

I don't think I've ever said something along these lines. Maybe someone else?
