i think its great since i've been trying to show her for about a year now.. and i know she'll show my dad how too, so it'll be fun. it'll save on the long distance phone bill too

My mom can't seem to understand the point of chat. She thinks the same rules as RL apply to OL chat and she doesn't know how I manage to do it. lol

I can only hold her hand so far.

My mom IM'd me once....she has NO typing skills....

It was at once the longest and shortest chat I've ever had....I mean, when the woman takes five minutes to type six words.....

I finally typed "Mom....sign off so I can call you...." She balked because IMing was "free"....and she didn't like the idea of me making a long distance call. I figured that what we would cover in a five minute call would take half of my life with her typing!

Still....gotta love her......

my mom is just getting really ticked that she cant find the emoticons. i keep using them and she cant find them. and then she gets mad cuz i laugh at her.

her typing isnt that bad.. it could be much worse. only its turning into 'i want to find this, will you find it for me?' and its getting old really fast

I hear ya. My mom just got reunited with her highschool buddies and they are all scattered across the US. So, they've decided that they're going to chat. Well, it's great! I've been trying to coax her into the technology age and she has refused to be immersed in it. She still calls ME to find out what her cell phone number is. Ugh. However, HER chatting has become MY nightmare. She doesn't understand the concept of the Internet despite my attempts to explain it to her.

Regardless of all the difficulties, I think it's admirable that she's willing to learn.

My Mum's getting heavily into computers... lots of tests and qualifications in word, excel and email and the like...

The days of me and my Dad discussing computer bits alone are gone... now my Mum butts in to find out more....

It took a while but I finally taught my mom to use msn messenger. With as religious as she is I will never show her a chat room. She can also manage to use AIM. She is getting there and she's 72!!
