She asked me what I did New Years Eve, and when I told her we stayed up all night dancing and got home around 8am, she said (very suspiciously) "How come you were able to stay awake so long? Are you doing drugs?"

So I was honest and I said "Well, not this very minute."

She started wiggin out, saying "I can't believe you, you have everything and I don't want to have to think you're going to throw it away on a drug habit, blah blah blah, I don't want to have to fly to England to identify your body (?!),"etc etc etc.

*sigh*

I let her say her piece until she calmed herself down (because there's not point in trying to stop her when she's like that) but sheesh.

I'm going to go make a pot of chili now.

When I was 16, I shared a vehicle with my mom. One night I left a 1/4 oz of pot on the passenger seat and went inside and fell asleep. The next morning I was awoken to the sight of my mom standing over me, holding my bag of pot in my face, and proclaiming very loudly, "DID YOU LOSE SOMETHING...?"

So, what was the drug of choice?
hi yourself!

oh y'know, I am a small fan of the little white pills that make ya wanna shake your groove thang, but we also had a a few nice fat spliffs and the requisite bottles of bubbly as well.

Pat her on her little head.

My mom's the same way (although I seem to remember it having to do with sex - lol)

We were discussing the state of our society, morals, whatever (I think I was an undergrad) and I remember asking my mother in a half-serious tone, "You weren't a virgin when you got married, were you?" Her shocked, "Of course I was!" made me wish I hadn't said a damn thing! Because of course, it didn't end there . . .

:p

Here I go sounding like a mother again, but I am a mother, so oh well. :D Remember that even when she's being annoying as hell, she wouldn't worry at all if she didn't love you.

Ah, Peachy, apart from saving me arse, I knew there was a reason why I loved you so. :D

Oh I know, believe me. It's just that the whole thing is a bit ironic - see, when I was a kid (I was born in '69) my mom was this major hippie chick, and my dad was very straight-laced and a bit old fashioned. (There are no longer married.) But my mom and her friends were the biggest bunch of potsmokers on the block! Now, somehow, since I became and adult, my mom is now this conservative Republican churchgoer (but not a born-again, thankfully), and my dad is this really cool liberal down-to-earth guy.

(My father's comment, when I told him about my New Year's, was "Well I guess you might as well have fun now, since you're wanting to have a baby soon - you won't have much time for it then.)

Your father pegged that one right!

A "pot" of chili, eh. Fucking doper.

:D

I assure you, it is the onions that have made my eyes so pink and watery.

Ain't that the truth! :p I got pregnant with my first right when I turned 21, so I didn't have a lot of "fun time". Oh well, I figure I'll be in my early to mid 40's when my kids move out. I'll have fun then.

When my mom came back from a vacation to India and Nepal she brought back a local pipe from Nepal made for smoking opium for my older brother. And YES she knew what it was and what it was for and YES she knew what my brother planed on using if for.

Yeah, right.

Can you blow into this hose please?

Its only a test. Really.

I remember when my mum asked the same question of me.

The only thing is she promptly admitted to me that as a nurse in the 60s she had more than her fair share of fun with chemicals and just wanted me not to be as daft as she was! If I was going to follow my own path at least not to screw myself up TOTALLY.

I suddenly gained a lot of respect for her. To admit that to me must have taken guts.

And no I wasn't and no I don't.

just a note of "sobriety" for this thread.

On New Year's Eve, at 11:30 pm, my 18 year-old son was arrested for speeding, DUI, minor in possession of alcohol and possession of marajuana.

The fines alone are going to be over $3,000. not counting his bail bond, the legal fees and the rediculous cost of auto insurance for the next 7 years.

But hey, what's a little pot and a drink or two going to hurt anyone?

It's called using common sense and moderation. Some of us have that ability - some develop it at a later age. Hopefully this will be a good lesson for your son. At least nobody was hurt.

hello Freya, I completely understand. I was also out on New Year's Eve enjoying a bit of libation. I'm not condeming moderate drinking for a moment, or in safe surroundings, even a bit more than moderate drinking. I just wanted to add a note of "moderation" and reality to the direction of the thread.

I, too, hope he learned some lessons. He's a college student and can't afford the costs of this, so I'll end up paying for most of it. If I have to pay, I sure want him to at least learn the lessons.

BTW, for those who think 18 year-olds should be allowed to drink legally, this is more evidence that many of them are not prepared for that responsibility at that age.

just some thoughts.

I hear ya, Tex. That's why one should never do two crimes at the same time.

I agree that many 18 yr olds are not mature enough - but then again, not many 21 yr olds are either.

I'm sure he'll learn his lesson when he has to take the bus a few times to get places. They do lose their driver's licence down there, don't they?

Well you have added driving while drunk to the mix. I wouldn't say it's not going to hurt anyone then.
