He was hit in the jaw at work by a tow cable that parted under load and the end caught him on the right side of the face, breaking off two teeth.
Turns out, not only couldn't the teeth be saved (they had broken into multiple pieces - he must have been in agony!) but the jaw has a couple of hairline fractures as well.
He was just starting to develop an infection through the shattered teeth too, so coming back now was just in time!
He could have had the work done in Darwin, but my maxillofacial surgeon is probably the very best in Australia, so he wanted to come back here.

Anyway, it's done now, and he's on antibiotics, maxi painkillers, and anti-inflammatories.

Given the damage, I'm not sure how he managed to wrestle me into bed and keep me there for almost 18 hours!
He even got up and made me breakfast while I slept.
And then of course, it was another day waiting before he got seen by the doc.

Oh very painfill, my son inl aw was head butted and ended up with broken Jaw, he had to have mouth sewn up and had to have everything, juiced so he could take it in through a straw

His jaw has 2 partial hairlinee fractures, so he won't need to be wired.
But steak is off the menu (unless it's my super-tender ribeye!) for 4 weeks.
The loss of the teeth will be an issue - both molars. Can't do much about that till the jaw heals.

lucky he didn't get his face ripped off

Very lucky! He was hit by the cable after it had already hit a few structures on the boat... and he was up on the flybridge at the time, so most of the momentum had gone.

I had the same experience in Vietnam tho several of my teeth were destroyed, and my skull was fractured. They let me wait a week for the dentist to return from R&R, without pain-killers. Drinking and eating was an ordeal. I feel for your guy.

i bet he's loving the medication right now. lol

feeling perc'd out all day

He's lucky to be alive.

People get cut in half when the arrest cables on aircraft carrier flight decks part.

This explains a lot.

I'm sorry he got hurt. You have more drama in your life, woman.

Given the nature of the accident, he's lucky to be alive. When cables snap, nothing is safe.

Why see this as drama?
It's just a mishap. Like me burning off my eyelashes the other week.....

Drama is when our exes decide to play stupid and do stuff we can't control

Same thing happened to me once in a Demolition Derby.

Did you find a good lawyer to sue his employer yet?

Did you find a good lawyer to sue his employer yet?

Why on earth would we do that?
They're paying all the medical bills, and paying him during his time off.
If we sue, not only does he lose the incredibly lucrative contract, but word will get out in the industry and he'll likely never work again.

Suing is the American way, wait, your down under.

We have caps on payouts for injuries here - like $150K for an eye, $230K for a hand (guesses only.)
So if you sue, not only will you likely lose your job, but the compensation wouldn't be enough to cover anyway.
