Here's a question I haven't seen during my relatively short time on the Lit. boards, and I'd love to know how you all would respond. I find the answers very telling about a person. Here's the scenario:

You are going to be stranded on a deserted island for some time, and you can have the following with you - one book, one film, and the collected music of one artist or composer. What would you want to have? Assume that you can play/listen to the media with no problem. You also can't say the Bible. The Gideon's were there and have already left one, if you want to read it...

What would you want with you?

I'm interested to see what people will say...

This is actually a no-brainer for me.

Book - Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville - I had to read this book in college and even though it is 300+ pages and it not light reading, it is an amazing look at Democracy not only in the US but also in Europe.

Movie - Tombstone - One of the best movies to quote but also has humor and gun play.

Music - Red Hot Chili Peppers - Every album is different and you can see how they evolve as a band and also how they changed with different guitarists.

Mine would be:

Book -Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray
Film - Moonstruck
Music - the collected works of J.S. Bach

At this stage in my life...

Book - (Passing on the obvious title of "How to Survive on a Deserted Island") The Abolition of Man by C S Lewis
Film - The Princess Bride
Music - U2

Book: Complete work of Edgar Allen Poe (it's one book!)
Movie: Baraka
Music: Porcupine Tree (or Bach, LicentiousLady has excellent taste).
