All is well. She wears them with no problem. No teasing at school.

She went to D's house this weekend. She's super worried about her little tyrant half-brother breaking them. From what she says he is allowed to do pretty much anything he wants. The only safe place to keep her glasses will be on top of the fridge in the middle. But because D sleeps most of the day.. while the children do as they please. She is afraid she won't be able to have her glasses while watching tv.

She was glad she was only going for 2 days. I reassured her that she won't hurt her eyes if she doesn't wear them.

Maybe from now on I'll just keep them at home when she goes to his house. Because I know if they are ruined.. it will be me that has to pay for another pair.

if you buy them at places like Perle Vision, they will let you take out insurance, i did thank god, my son has specs too, have "lost "
them about 4-5 times just this year!!!:D

Mr Freakys insurance pays 100% of one pair a year. Each replacement pair after that is 50% paid for. So it's not that bad.. but still... I don't want to pay for another pair if D's little brat child breaks them.

ya know?

are the Buddy Holly/ Rivers Cumo glasses?

Do I look like a cruel mother? ;)

They are purple wire frames. Real cute.. and make her look so grown up.

*sigh* my baby is growing to damn fast

Quick story

One of my sons wore glasses from 9 months of age on. At that age, babies don't have a bridge on their nose to hold the glasses up, so he had to wear an elastic strap behind his head to hold them on his head. He liked wearing them because he could see properly. We didn't have a problem with that. What we had a problem with was the other little babies at daycare. They'd crawl up to him at playtime and reach up to pull them off his face. Can you imagine? We laugh about it now (20-something years later). The glasses would snap back onto his face -- poor baby!

Good luck with your little one!

That would be hard.. at 9 months old. How did you keep him from trying to play with them? At that age my kids wanted everything to go in their mouths. ;)

My daughter is 7.. and I can't keep her from removing them when she is talking to me. I guess she figures she doesn't need them for anything besides watching tv, playing video games, reading and working on the computer.. why wear them when talking to someone during commercials.. LOL

I just tried calling her. I guess her dad isn't answering his cell phone.
The games people will play. Maybe someday he will realize the only person he is hurting is her.

Maybe I'll get her a cell phone to take, so I can call her directly.

Her glasses sound adorable! I'm just so sorry that she has to worry about them getting broken when she goes for those visits.

Oh, and they grow up way too fast, don't they??
I swear I was looking at my boys the other day and was shocked. I think they all doubled in size overnight on me.

She isn't crazy about the visits anyway. It's not her "normal" enviroment. They do things differently. She enjoys going to see her one brother. The one that is her age. But the youngest, she isn't crazy about. And she isn't crazy about the "step" mom either.

She is getting to the age that she is worried about her looks. She likes clean clothing.. her hair to be clean and brushed.. She doesn't get that at their house. She won't even wear her good clothing from home to his house. She has a drawer of "Davids house clothing" that she wears. She is afraid it will get ruined by the dirt in their house.

Well bless her heart! I don't what else to say, I'm so sorry that the visits are so difficult. It does sound like she's handling them the best she can. She must be a pretty terrific young lady.

I think she is pretty terrific ;)

I think I have done a good job so far in raising her.

One of my nieces got her first pair of glasses when she was about a year old. She had some very serious eye problems, but now is just plain old near sighted. She had to have the elastic band to keep her glasses on when she was that little, but none of the kids at daycare ever messed with them. Your daughter sounds like a great kid & it sounds like you have done a great job of raising her. For a lot of kids, wearing glasses doesn't seem to be as traumatic as it was when I got mine.
