For those of you that don't know, one of A&M's traditions is to use the phrase "Beat the Hell Outta...." You fill in the blanks with the name of the opposing football team and use it in cheers and the like.

A&M as in Texas A&M??? My dad went to U or T and most of my old friends ended up at U of T. We were all supposed to but I moved away and so never did.

Hmhh wonder if i remember any old aggie jokes.

Ah, I believe you mean The University of Texas. I can understand the confusion.

You see, Texas A&M University was the first publicly funded college in Texas. Normally, the first such institution in a state is named the University of [insert state name here]. However, A&M is a franchise school. It was created through a federal program that gave money to several states to start agricultural and mechanical colleges. A Senator from Missouri sponsored the bill, I believe.

The University of Texas, on the other hand, was created through state legislature and is entirely funded by sources within the state of Texas. While A&M relied on outside support, UT is based on Texas oil money and land grants.

So ATM is concededly the first public school in Texas. But UT is the first public university for Texans, by Texans, and as such can proudly claim title to the University of Texas, and not simply another Texas University.

Did you hear about the Aggie who learned to count to twenty one? He was arrested for indecent exposure.

Did you hear about the power outage at the A & M library? Forty aggies were stuck on the escalator for 3 hours.
