I seem to have the opposite problem as Carson. Yesterday, my new computer came and I excitedly removed the dinosaur I had and hooked up the new one. I wanted to hook it up before my bf came home because he would take six hours doing it. I assembled it without a hitch.

Anyway, Windows XP freaks me out. So, I'll be online in small doses until I get everything figured out. My stories were all on disk and saved under something antiquated and I had to turn the old computer back on so I could change them all to rtf files so XP would open them. Of course I'm working on two stories at once right now and have to learn to use Word Perfect right here in the middle. Grrrrr!
I feel like a cavegirl in the modern world.

I had my Windows updated by my dealer.

Yesterday I found that the update had disabled my anti-virus program and my firewall.

I hurriedly scanned and found nothing wrong after 2 weeks with no protection!

And you think you have problems?????

I just walked in from work to find that my  husband failed to pen the dogs before leaving the house. I came home to find my laptop upside down on the hardwood floor having fallen more than three feet after my little  angels pulled it off its table. All the connections were torn loose. The USB ports are mangled and the power source cord is broken off inside its port. It's still functional to a point but the battery will only last so long. Thank god I have a PC too or I would be lost. Now how will IT react since this is a work-issued unit? I cringe to hear what my boss will say.

Thanks a fucking lot hubby.

PS Sorry I won't be hearing from you Carson. You are just about the only thing I had to look forward to tonight. And this on the heels of my favorite employee resigning on me today.

Let the pity party begin! Too bad my meds are not up to par yet. I may have uncontrolled bouts of crying tonight.

Poor thing, don't cry. Sounds like everyone in your house needs a good spanking.

As for Carson, perhaps I'll relay messages from him via cell phone to the computer. It will be like a Carson/Scarlett hybrid. Scary indeed. :rose:
for the nice image, MS.
p.s. I'm feeling like less of a cavegirl at the moment, I'm getting the hang of this new computer business. But you can still be my caveboy, SubJoe :D

Thanks Miss S. That does sound a bit scary. Remind him he still has my number if he gets really lonely. :D

"That'll be the day," Carson mumbles to himself.

I think I just invented a new game. Let's all speak for him.

Guess what?

I got it fixed.

It was only a bad CD drive.

Scarlett, you're finally caught up to the new millenium with your XP! :nana:

Elizabeth, your company will just have to buy you a new laptop. You don't have to speak for me now.

There are other OS's than XP???

Long, long ago, there was something called Windows 98.

It died and gave way to its older brother, Windows 2000. Then there was ME.

At long last, we beheld a vision.

(theme to 2001.)

They called it XP.

And it was good.

Windows 2000 isn't in the same category really, that is an NT version. Networking.

I still use Windows 98SE.. I prefer it over XP, and definately over ME.. Millenium was a horrible system. Worst they've made.

True. We use it at work.

Alls I know is, on XP, I can make the computer go. It's almost idiot proof. I never used ME but Windows98 seemed a lot more complicated, especially for the tech-impaired.

XP does take a little getting used to but I like it better than the other ones. The professional version is better than the home office one.

I like XP- I like the interface and the color scheme. What I DON'T like is my computer attracting viruses like it's got HIV or something.

People say Internet Explorer is responsible for that. I wouldn't know. I just have a firewall and Norton and run Adaware a lot.

Same here, but there's something wrong with my Norton. Whenever I try to download an update of the newest virus definitions, I get an error message saying I can't download this without closing all Symantec applications first...

I think my computer suffers from self-paranoia.
