Jennifer and I were beyond buzzed by the time we stumbled into her parents’ house. It was clearly by the grace of some divinity that we’d driven back to her place, a few miles away from campus, without getting into an accident or being pulled over on the way. It was well after midnight and the frat party we'd left was still going strong, but we both had classes to wake up for in the morning, so we made it an early night.
I at least had enough wits about me to know that I was in no shape to drive myself home to my apartment; I was far too intoxicated to navigate a high-speed, 5 lane highway. So Jennifer had insisted that I sleep over, like old times, and I happily accepted.
“You’re soo smart, Jennnniii. That’s why I loove yooou,” I cooed, wrapping my arms around my best friend since primary school’s waist, embracing her tightly from behind. She reached behind me and affectionately scrunched my hair as we waddled like this toward the kitchen, trying without much success to keep our slurring voices down. After all, we didn’t want to wake her parents.
