It's not that I regard any species as better or lessor. Each has it's own atrocities to deal with. Mankind, just has a way to make theirs known to one another.

Since the begining of recorded history, these acts of violence have occurred in the name of various religions or countries. All believing they are right in their beliefs. Time has proven that no matter how we try to prevent it, we have been unable to stop them completely from occurring.

We have been successful in limiting some of them thru various means of sanctions and acts of war, but until the fundamental beliefs of those countries and religions are overhauled to ensure this does not occur again, we will not see the end of it. I am not saying their religion or beliefs are wrong. Certainly there should be punishments for wrong doing. But, maliciously hurting an innocent person to punish the wrong doer doesn't solve the problem. It only leads to ongoing acts of violence in response. I can see both sides of the arguement, both have valid points, but so far no one has been able to find a peaceful resolution that would appease the parties involved, so they take it into their own hands.

As sad as it is, I don't see a resolution to this problem happening in mine or my child's lifetime.

Not necessarily. When I was in college, our cat killed a mouse and left it on his owner's (my roommate's) pillow. It was a gift for him, only chewed up enough to kill it.

Let's not anthropomorphize guys. Animals sometimes kill other than for a meal, but that is all we know! To assume that they do it for "fun" is reaching. A cat probably "plays" with a mouse because its instincts simply will not allow it to ignore the way a mouse moves. Man eating lions and tigers may kill humans because they have "learned" that humans are a threat in their territory, just as lion prides try to kill all the cheetas in their territory.
