One of my uncles used to play the trombone in a brass band before WW2.

After the war he had TB and couldn't play for more than a minute but most of his colleagues had died during the war. he inherited all the band's instruments. Later he gave most to a secondary school for their band but kept some of the less usual ones.

My brother inherited the trombone and a trumpet. I have a clarinet with fingering and levers between baroque and modern so useless for either but has a nice tone. I also have a Melody horn which looks like a French Horn but has pistons like a trumpet - also equally useless for most bands.
