Not too sure if this is the right place to post this but I figured if anyone can help me then you guys and gals can
I am looking for some good sites to download music from my heyday late 70's, early 80's
anyone know any good free sites?

Most P2P download programs are loaded with Spyware (like Lime Wire, Kazaa, etc)

Know anything about Newsgroups? Most ISP's offer News servers that offer a variety of music, etc......

Good Luck

Tin give Kazaa Lite a try I found that to be better than Kazaa for not having spyware

Get the KaZaa Lite++ version 2.4.3 Right Here and I guarantee you, you won't find one speck of spy, or adware on your machine from that installation. PLUS, it has a feature that blocks the R.I.A.A. from seeing your I.P, so they can't trace you if you want to D/L any "illegal" MP3's ;)

This is NOT to be confused with the regular KaZaa media desktop. That is filled with ad and spyware.

What about the Web Bug

Should we be concerned WHAT info they are gathering from us at this site?

For music I recommend Itunes (http://www.itunes.com) ($1 per song, or $10 per album) or using WalMart's new music service (http://www.walmart.com) which is something like $0.88 per song.

By using a legal download site you are ensuring you will not be sued by the RIAA.

I personally recommend itunes, it has very generous use rights, you can burn unlimited cd's, download to unlimited ipods, and share the song between three computers (which can be removed and added to the list). There is also an intereface to download music that you own that isn't on the current computer.

Short of that if you want to take risks I'd recommend Overnet (http://www.overnet.com, also known as e-donkey) or kazaa lite. Kazaa lite is kazaa without the spyware, the project has been largley stopped but you can still find downloads of it.

I'd also recommend installing ad-aware if you are going to install any p2p clients because they liike to install spyware.

To clarify one thing, Kazaa LIite maintains a database of ip addresses known to be attached to the RIAA, it then prevents these IP addresses from connecting to your kazaa lite so in theory the RIAA can't see what you are sharing. Unfortunately this is only partially effective, the RIAA will employ different IP addresses and different agencies to scan for this illegal media. It will help protect you but wont stop them from seeing what you have if they really want to, just needed to clarify this point so someone isn't misled.

I personally love Overnet, www.overnet.com, if you buy it there is no spyware of anykind, if you don't and use the free version you get adware in the program and if you do not deselect them in the install you can get some things like cydoor, but it works really really well for music, movies (yeah those kind of movies too) software, ebooks, tons and tons of stuff.

I saw this on Tech TV.

It does not insure 100% safety but what does? At least you will know what/who is watching you download your music and the block list can be updated.
and it is free.

enjoy.:)

Hi all thought I would just add another one to this which I have found it is called
Morpheus and it has some good stuff on it

Thanks for all the help:)

Downloading the 'illegal' MP3s and whatnot is totally disadvised. I could go into the whole appeal to one's conscience, but let's face it -- a lot of these people have none.

Personally, for downloading commercials and clips and other random things (that are legal to download for free), I use Diet KaZaA.

I'm a funny commercial fanatic.

any of these programs work for a mac besides limewire? speaking of which, does limewire work now? i've never had any luck getting a download off it.

Itunes will work for a Mac, it is made by apple.

It also depends on Mac OS you are running if you are running Mac OS X you can usually compile most the Linux/BSD applications because it is based on BSD.

Also I believe Limewire is Java based (if it isn't there is another client that is) so it will work on any platform that has a recent java JRE (1.3 or preferably 1.4).

And besides that, it's just the right thing to do. :D

I know you're close to the industry....

Have you, or anyone you know, ever received a royalty statement that did NOT show you owing them money?

I've read several interviews with people you would expect to have made something from their records, and all have said that the statements they receive always has production costs exceeding royalities thus creating a bill (not a check!) from the producers.

Other interviews with artists say that they live by what they make at concerts and from private sales of CDs at those events. Anything they do through industry channels is done for exposure, not for profit.

If I knew that I was playing your music, I'd send you a contribution directly.
