"'merkans" "muricans" "Mericans"

It's the new "nigger."

Put a hashtag in front of it and savor the flavor of your bigotry.

American in America,
Ellie

'Americans' implies those who live in the Americas, including Canadians, USAnians, Mexicans, Central Americans, Caribbeans, Venezuelans, Colombians, Ecuadorians, Peruvians, Guineans, Brazilians, Uruguayans, Paraguayans, Chileans, and Argentinians. And a bunch of penguins.

'Murkans' or 'Murcans' or whatever implies USAnians who think of 'America' (if they think at all and can read maps) as being the Lower 48 States plus a few outliers like Alaska, Hawai'i, Puerto Rico, Guam, Samoa, Virgin Islands, Panama Canal, Cozumel, and the Moon.

There's a difference.

No, there's really not. Not when you consider how the word "nigger" evolved. Think about it.

Suggesting in the South,
Ellie

P.S. (and pardon the late edit): I do give you points for explanatory creativity. Not many, though.

I was surprised - and dismayed - to learn recently that persons born in American Samoa are American nationals, but not American citizens unless one of their parents is a citizen. Dismayed because American Samoa is noted for having the highest rate of military enlistment of any U.S. state or territory. They deserve citizenship.

I couldn't agree more that they deserve citizenship, but I think the enlistment stat is mostly incidental. The military is, inevitably, one of only a few real employers in American Samoa.

Just sayin' at the Jubilee,
Ellie

The military, and the NFL.

I'm new here; what do you mean by "jubilee?"

I'm not sure how far back the word itself goes, but here in America, especially in the black community, it's lived on as a word for a momentous celebration.

10-4.

This looks like an interesting thread that I bumped into. It's late, but I'd like to visit again.

By the way, you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!

Catch you on the flip side. ;)

You're not a Game of Thrones fan, are you?

Not that watery tarts throw swords in it, but dammit! Swords mean something!

No argument there, at least as far as US demographics go. Now if we were to consider much of the rest of the world, Christians would have a valid complaint-

-wait. What the hell does that have to do with my OP, or even the post you were replying to?

Explain yourself, sir.

You compared a derogatory term used to oppress people with a certain skin color to a derogatory term used to ricdicule people with a certain attitude.

I found that renard_ruse levels of silly.

In Canada, the word has always been used to describe americans on vacation.

And american means a person from the usa.
