I had this story idea that came to me and I am not sure why or where it came from, but I thought I would put it out there and see if anyone was interested.
I picture the story being set in and old victorian home in the late nineteenth century. It takes place in either London or Paris and with the scenery resembling Guy de Maupassant's short story "The Necklace"
The story would start out with a father comforting his daughter at night because she has recently lost her mother. What the father doesn't know is that his daughter murdered her mother so that she could take her mother's place in bed with the father.
The murder was made to look like an accident. The mother, who drank occasionally, is found dead by the father returning home from work at the bottom of a tall spiral staircase. She has a glass of wine, now spilt of course, in her hand. Investigators ruled the mother was a little tipsy and fell down the stairs broke her neck and died. In reality, the daughter pushed her mother down the stairs, made sure was dead, or would die shortly from her injuries, and then left for school (at least the last year of high school because she has to be at least 18) as though nothing happened. When she "learns" about her mother's accidental death, she becomes very tormented and unable to sleep at night. She needs her father's comfort to help her sleep.
I don't have any part of the story beyond this set up, so whoever takes up the story has free reign to write whatever they want.
Hope to see the story idea in the works.
