Munky's Will.

OK, if we're gonna get all serious....if you are serious about the Lit part, set aside money for maintenance/growth expenses....or for a legal fund (a Republican could be elected in 2016, after all)

Explain please.

I have an apt Wed morning with my attorney regarding drafting a will but I would like to be prepared.

I'm not sure how I can explain it differently....if you wanna set aside money for the Lit community, something that would benefit all would seem to do your legacy the most honor.

I don't know about "biggest impact" but my inclination now is to leave one-third to an organization: Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Good choice.

I could also suggest a university scholarship in a STEM subject.

St. Jude's Children's hospital is a worthy cause.

The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation does a lot of good.

NPR can always use the cash.

I will mention to my atty your "maintence/growth" comment

Good to see you Bastard and thank you for posting.

Don't know STEM. St. Judes is great as is the Gates Foundation but my contribution would pale in comparison to seriously big money. I'd like to leave something where it makes an actual difference to the beneficiary. Ego, I guess.

STEM=Science, Tech, Engineering & Math education.

If you want the ego massage, seriously, set up a scholastic endowment that will get bright young minds the education they need. Not only will you help improve their lives, but for every one that turns around and produces useful knowledge or helps to build/maintain infrastructure, you'll touch the lives of all those who will benefit indirectly.

For example; In the old California Gold Rush days, a certain few made millions & became fabulously wealthy. One of the wealthiest had the misfortune to bury his only child. Now childless, Leland and his wife decided to use their vast fortune establishing a university which bears the name of it's founders, Stanford.

Thank you, Bastard. STEM sounds very interesting. I will follow up.

Again, in all seriousness (ok, a perhaps a little bit funny, too...) If you're looking to help the people on Lit... NAMI.org..

I'm only half kidding, because we see a lot of mental illness that gets overlooked, brushed off, and just plain ignored.

It's an org that covers all types, too. You cover pediatric, youth, and geriatric conditions, as well as illnesses that typically affect veterans.

I've looked into the National Tourettes Syndrome Association since I have that. (Not joking, and while I'll joke about it, it does get really annoying when people ask, I say yes, and they laugh and think it's a joke. It reminds me how sensationalized and made fun of certain extremes of TS have been. I often wonder if they'd laugh after I throat punched them, then said "Oopsie! Its a tic that comes over me when I encounter a real fuckwad." )

Munky, if you have no next of kin, have you considered giving to your school? Or even to the local library? You don't have to pick large organizations for it to matter. :rose:

Some kind of save the boobies charity since you like breasts so much.

seriously - you could create a scholarship at a local school to help kids get to college if they have a particular hardship that might prevent it - a firefighter/cop parent who is killed on duty, or there's one I read about where the child had to stay home to care for a sick parent - they gave her a scholarship to school and hired a caregiver for her parent.

Building funds for a local no-kill animal shelter that needs an upgrade, or an endowment to spay/neuter animals. Or you could buy stuffed monkeys for kids undergoing treatment for cancer or something at a hospital :D the Munky would live on.

Talk to your lawyer, but also your financial guy.

If he is ready to go, we can lovingly escort him onward to the next plane of higher existence

Wow - that's quite a leap. Did you not read the opening of the thread? He's simply preparing for the future after quite a health scare. We're not ready to write him off just yet.
