Multiple chapters of different categories -- an idea I'm working on now.

I'm working on what I know is, on its face, a cliche ... guy's first time, then years later introduced to a child resulting from that. Where I'm going beyond that is in how he deals with telling his family, and in an ethical dilemma this all brought about.

Ch 1 is straightforward -- it'll be a First Time story. What, though, of subsequent chapters? There may or not be much actual sex in them.

Any ideas and questions are greatly appreciated, and I thank you for them.

Select the most relevant category based on the overall flavour of the sexual content. Don't expect those who have read the first chapter to come back and read the second, especially if you haven't written it yet, so don't be guided too much by that.

Your story concept sounds interesting, but I'd say adapt the existing content and write it as one self-contained story. You're targeting two different reader groups here - those who exclusively read first time stories won't be as interested in the life drama; those interested in the life drama will be more interested in the overall theme, and the first time is just a small part of it.

I can't really call it Romance, as our (for lack of a better word) hero doesn't ride off into the sunset with the mother of his child, or reconcile with his ex-wife*, from whom he is divorced anyway by the time he finds out about Kiddo. But the First Time is what sets it all into motion.

* There is no BTB (because no need) or RAAC; simply a fizzling of a marriage between a man and a woman who, if not for their two kids, would have been better served as lifelong friends, which they are even now (as he is with Kiddo's mom). Something of a Carole King, "It's Too Late" vibe.

And thank you for so quick a reply. Much appreciated.

Erotic Couplings might work. Some writers regard it as a bit of a backwater category (I've found it okay), but it won't give you the hostility of LW, which in a normal world is where you'd think a story such as this might go.

Hostility on LW ... hoo-wee, you're not kiddin', brother. Even so, it wouldn't be an LW in the first place (because no cheating); moreover, the protagonist's first time is when he's eighteen, with a girl the same age.

EC doesn't seem like a bad idea, based on the overall story arc. And since Romance has worked for me before, I might go with it again ("drama, love, risk" and what not).

Before I do anything else with this story, I am going back into the draft to thank you at the beginning, as I am doing now.
