Multiple Chapters Across Multiple Categories?

I keep hearing about the nasty era. I think it was just a year or so before I came on board. I've seen a fair share of nastiness so it must have been quite bad.
I came on board at the tail end of that period. Imagine toxic waste, sewer dwellers and rising scum, and they would come out at night for the contests; stack 'em, and add bile. That's when the AHMod was introduced, which settled it down. More importantly, the worst players got bored and moved on. It was pretty ugly. Correction, petty and ugly. One of the reasons, though, while I rarely ever enter a contest - that's when the worst behaviour manifested itself.

That sounds interesting. Do you know why it was discontinued? I imagine there weren't too many contestants.

I don't understand the point scoring system. How does it work? What are the cap levels?

I'm not sure why it was discontinued. It doesn't really matter, I guess. You can still find information about it on the Forum, check the Awards & Contests section.

The point of the contest was to encourage participation in contests and to fill other categories with stories. The cap levels served to help make that happen. Once you reached a cap level for a category, you couldn't earn any more points within that category until you met the same cap level in other categories.

The only reason I brought it up in the thread: It was a fun challenge and there's nothing to prevent someone from challenging themselves. Print out a scorecard, give yourself a year, and start writing. I'm not trying to restore the contest.

I believe it continued for a couple more years after its official end as an informal, "just-for-fun" contest among several writers.

Secondary note about contests: Contest submissions will attract new readers to your library. If you're interested in expanding your audience, enter as many contests as you can, just don't get wrapped up in the horse race of winning or losing.

I came in before you but I didn't notice toxicity. Maybe I was distracted. Or maybe I was used to UFO-paranormal-conspiracy sites, where speech was often 'heated', hey? LIT seemed comparatively calm.

Quite so. I'd have contest entries lined up were I so anxious for eyeballs. Remember that contest entries must be single standalone stories -- no series, no (in)finite chapters. I edited a 20-LIT-page winner. Those who stuck through it all, voted high. I guess I should write a novel. More coffee!
