Unfortunately I don’t remember much about the story I’m looking for. I basically remember it was three parts and the title was a misdirection.
The story starts with a teenage black boy that was a bit of a geek. Something happens and he’s killed on the street. The story shifts to the main character and is a somewhat typical loving wives story. I seem to recall that he was an engineer and was being mentored and protected by a large black man.
Eventually we find out that the young man at the beginning of the story was the brother of the large man and he does what he does for the MC to make up for the brother he lost.
