I just saw the new music video remake of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On". It sounds great and consists of many great artists like Bono, Destiny's Child, Eve, Puff Daddy/P. Diddy, etc.
A message is displayed below explaining that it is an updated production to contribute to the AIDS Society Worldwide. The question is, however, why are they showing the events of September 11, 2001 if it is supposed to represent all of the victims of AIDS?

this song and video were all planned before 11th sep but it maybe wouldnt have got as much money if it was just for aid's fund considoring the events of 11th they probably will get more if they do it 50/50 ... which i think is great

i havent heard the song or seen the video yet

OKAY, I SEE NOW

Thanks Lavendar and Sexy-Girl for shedding a little light on that subject for me. Other than the presentation (prior to my understanding of it), I had no problem with the song or the artists. I'm a great fan of Marvin Gaye and remember that "What's Going On" was one of his songs that he had written in protest to the Vietnam War.

Just one thing..........I'll have to disagree with you SEXY-GIRL.....
I remember the few songs that were written in the past for the contribution to AIDS research and its victims and they were successful. Its purpose of the production, if I recall, did not hurt it any. In particular, I'm referring to Dionne Warwick's "That's What Friends Are For", with herself, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, and Elton John.

My only gripe, if you want to call it that, is that "WHAT'S GOING ON" may not be a good song for either purpose, due to the fact that it was done for and during the Vietnam War. For example, Marvin sang a line in that song..."Mother, Mother...Everybody thinks we're at war. But who are they to judge us, simply 'cause our hair is long?" and I don't think that fits in the purpose. But that's just my opinion.

Once again, thanks Lavendar and Sexy-Girl for the explanation.
